Top of the Morning, Sept. 27, 2023

Sep. 27—On Wednesdays, we'll introduce the students who make up Year 8 of High School Confidential, powered by Danville Area Community College. First up: Bement's Quinn Flavin. Follow her on Snapchat (@quinn.flavin), Instagram (@quinn.flavin) and X (@quinn_flavin).

While she's thrilled to be writing for us, Quinn hopes journalism one day leads to a job covering major league baseball. That's no surprise to friends and family, "who know I'm a huge sports fan," the 17-year-old Cubs fanatic from Ivesdale said. "The people in my circle know I love to talk sports."

Her parents — Trixie and John — got her involved early on, Quinn playing every sport imaginable. Today, she teaches tumbling at KLEEN Movement in Monticello, stars for the cheer team at Bement and gives Dad endless grief about being a Cardinals fan.

Her goal: Attend the University of Illinois (Mom's alma mater) and major in broadcast journalism.

"I want a bigger representation of women in sports (journalism)," she said. "It'd be cool to work at ESPN."
