Top Nashville area Spring Fling moments: FRA track wins final title for retiring coach

MURFREESBORO – David Tucker ended his 38th year of coaching track and field at Franklin Road Academy on Wednesday with an ice water bath and one final state championship.

Tucker led FRA to the Division II-A boys track state championship with 187 points — 87 more than second-place Harding Academy. The team title is the fifth for the school — all under Tucker.

"There isn't a better way to go out, especially with this group," Tucker said. "This group of young people are incredible. They did everything we asked of them."

The championship is the first since 2003 for the program.

Eagleville, Huntland softball set for Round 5

The Lady Eagles and Lady Hornets are familiar foes.

After playing four times already this season, the two teams are set to play again Thursday with a trip to the Class 1A softball state championship on the line.

GCA's Malachi Jones shines in state tournament return

A foot injury kept Jones out of the Lions state soccer tournament run last season.

Franklin Grace plays Boyd Buchanan for the state title on Thursday.

Mensi Stiff sweeps throws, sets shot put championship record

It wasn't the state record that Brentwood Academy junior Mensi Stiff envisioned prior to the Division II track and field championships.

Stiff broke her own TSSAA state championship meet record with a throw of 50-feet-2. She has thrown farther though.

Stiff, an Ole Miss commitment, broke a 37-year TSSAA record in the shot put in 2021 when she threw 48-11 ½ to win her first title.

Lipscomb Academy knocks out defending DII-AA champions

Baylor was the consensus favorite entering this year's Division II-AA baseball state tournament but were eliminated after just two games.

A 3-2 loss to McCallie set up a matchup with Lipscomb in the losers bracket Wednesday morning. After both schools scored a pair of runs in the first inning, Alex Junghans finally put the Mustangs in the sixth inning with an RBI single.

Willie Walton tossed a complete game only allowing four hits and striking out seven.

Lipscomb Academy trails Knoxville Catholic 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth in a game that was suspended until Thursday morning due to weather.

Page, Valor Collegiate Academy set up all Nashville-area Class 2A final

A first-time champion will be crowned following Friday's Class 2A championship between Valor Collegiate Academy and Page.

The Patriots are back in the Class 2A championship a year after losing a heartbreaker to Austin-East for the championship while VCA is making its first championship.

A win for Page would complete the season sweep for the school as their girls won the Class 2A girls championship last October.
