Top Performers among Erie County athletes in District 10/PIAA action from Feb. 26-March 4
Several District 10 and Erie County high school athletes have met the challenge of the winter sports postseasons, raising the levels of their game.
Here are some of the Top Performers this week:
Wrestling
Sierra Chiesa, Northwestern: The sophomore, with her second-place result in the 107-pound weight class of the Northwest Region Class 2A tournament, will be the first female to compete in the 85-year history of the PIAA tournament.
Cyrus Hurd, North East: The 127-pounder finished first in his weight class at the Northwest Region 2A tournament at Sharon.

Danny Church, Fort LeBoeuf: The 215-pounder was the last of three gold medalists for the Bison, who finished first in the team standings for the Northwest Region 2A tournament.
Girls basketball
Jayden McBride, Cathedral Prep: She scored 22 of her 25 points during the first half of the Ramblers' 62-29 victory vs. Obama Academy in a PIAA Class 5A subregion final at Joann Mullen Gymnasium.
Olivia Kulyk, Mercyhurst Prep: The 1,000-point career scorer for the Lakers added another 20 to her total during their 48-33 win over Wilmington in District 10's Class 3A championship game. ... Her 23 points also highlighted the Lakers' offense when they defeated Sharpsville 50-33 in a tournament semifinal at Fairview.
Bre Heidt, Fairview: Her 18 points helped the Tigers repeat as District 10 champions with a 38-32 victory over Harbor Creek in the teams' Class 4A final at Joann Mullen Gymnasium.

Hope Garrity, Fairview: The Edinboro University recruit's 18 points helped the Tigers rally for a 53-43 victory vs. Conneaut in the teams' District 10 4A semifinal.
Sadie Feronti, McDowell: Her double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds) were notable for the Trojans when they won 60-26 at Taylor Allderdice in a PIAA Class 6A subregion semifinal at Pittsburgh.
Lena Walz, Cathedral Prep: The Ramblers' 80-17 rout of DuBois in a PIAA 5A subregion semifinal included her 23 points, with 21 of them scored in the first half.
Hannah Smith, Harbor Creek: She totaled 14 points for the Huskies, who won 54-44 over Warren in a District 10 4A semifinal at Joann Mullen Gymnasium.
Boys basketball
Anthony Collins, Erie First Christian: The Eagles, with the aid of his 13 points and 16 rebounds, became District 10 champions for the first time via their 49-44 victory vs. Mercer in the teams’ Class 2A final at Westminster College.
Tavion Spencer, Cathedral Prep: His 20 points accounted for half of the Ramblers’ offense when they won 40-32 at DuBois in a PIAA Class 6A subregion final.
Evan Moffett, Seneca: His double-double (17 points and 13 rebounds) led the seventh-seeded Bobcats to a 58-44 upset of the fourth-seeded Fairview Tigers in District 10’s Class 3A third-place game.
Jay Smith, Erie High: His 19-point performance helped theRoyals' dramatic fourth-quarter rally to beat Taylor Allderdice 62-58 in a PIAA 6A subregion semifinal.
Avery Collins, Erie First Christian: He made three 3-pointers amid his game-high 20 points during the Eagles'63-42 victory over Cambridge Springs in a District 10 Class 2A semifinal at Meadville.
Boys swimming
Matthew Hinman, Cathedral Prep: His time of 58.39 seconds in the Class 2A boys 100 breaststroke was the last of four records set during District 10's meet at Geneva, Ohio.
Nicolin Pierce, McDowell: He was a District 10 individual (100 backstroke) and relay (200 freestyle) gold medalist for the Class 3A boys portion of District 10's meet at the S.P.I.R.E. Institute's natatorium.
Aidan Levis, Cathedral Prep: He was a gold medalist as an individual (100-yard butterfly) and with a record-setting relay (200 medley) during the opening 2A boys session of District 10’s meet at Geneva, Ohio.
Mitchell Myers, Fairview: The sprinter, by .01 of a second, won the 2A boys 50 freestyle (22.24) during the District 10 meet at Geneva, Ohio.
Chris Zhou, McDowell: He finished first as an individual (50 freestyle) and with a relay (200 free) during the Trojans’ first-day appearance in the 3A portion of District 10’s meet.

Girls swimming
Haley Palmer, Cathedral Prep: The Cleveland State recruit received District 10's inaugural Class 2A girls outstanding swimmer/diver award for her four-victory performance at the S.P.I.R.E. Institute's natatorium in Geneva, Ohio.
Abby Zablotny, Fairview: She anchored the Tigers to first place in the 2A girls 400-yard freestyle relay during District 10's meet at Geneva, Ohio.
Havana Austin, McDowell: She was a two-time individual gold medalist (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke) during the Class 3A girls portion of District 10's meet.
Boys indoor track and field
Jace Walls, General McLane: He cleared 6 feet, 4 inches for second place in the boys high jump during the state meet at Penn State University.

Girls indoor track and field
Sarah Clark, Cathedral Prep: She recorded the best result (fifth in the 3,000 meters) among the Erie County females who participated in the state indoor track and field meet at Penn State University.
Hockey
Brayden Sprickman, Cathedral Prep: He scored twice for the Ramblers when they edged Upper St. Clair 4-3.
