Top Performers among Erie County high school athletes: April 10-15

The unseasonably warm and dry weather gave District 10 spring sports fans a large choice of April events to choose from outdoors the past week.

Here are some of the Top Performers from April 10-15:

Baseball

Jake Rzodkiewicz, Harbor Creek: He recorded three hits for the Huskies, who only needed five innings for a 10-0 win against Northwestern.

Carson Stevens, Girard: The YellowJackets’ 15-0 victory against Seneca was highlighted by his five-inning shutout that included five strikeouts.

Dom Fracassi, Erie High: He doubled three times for the Royals when they beat General McLane 10-5.

Trevin Capela, Union City: The catcher’s three-hit, four-RBI performance highlighted the Braves’ 11-3 Region 3 victory at Iroquois.

Gunner Bax, Girard: He totaled three hits and three RBIs for the YellowJackets, who won 13-6 at Jefferson (Ohio).

Ross Morrow, General McLane: He was the winning pitcher with a six-inning start when the Lancers defeated Warren 6-4 in Region 5 action.

Carter Swanson, McDowell: His home run contributed to the Trojans’ 14-1, five-inning victory vs. Fort LeBoeuf.

John Koshan, Cathedral Prep: He achieved a rarity with two triples in one game, which also accounted for five RBIs, as part of the Ramblers’ 15-2 victory over Corry.

Lucas Rupp, Seneca: The Bobcats’ winning pitcher for their 7-2 victory over Northwestern struck out seven Wildcats and only allowed them one earned run over 6 1/3 innings.

Eli Moon, Harbor Creek: His home run highlighted the Huskies’ 7-5 victory vs. the Fairview Tigers.

Izaak Ogrodowczyk, McDowell: He was the Trojans’ winning pitcher for their 12-0, five-inning victory at Corry in large part from his three hits and four RBIs.

Softball

Taylor Ginkel, Fairview: She hit a triple during the Tiges’ 19-2, four-inning rout of Erie High.

Hayley Dever, Cathedral Prep: Her sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning was the difference in the Ramblers’ dramatic 7-6 non-region victory vs. the Union City Bears.

Zoey Johnson, Northwestern: Her home run contributed to the Wildcats' 19-3, six-inning win against North East.

Emily Dudenhoeffer, Cathedral Prep: She homered during the Ramblers' 11-2 victory against the Meadville Bulldogs.

Sadie Bowers, Fort LeBoeuf: Her two-out, three-run triple in the top of the seventh inning was the difference for the Bison when they won 8-5 at Harbor Creek.

Lauren Konkol, Seneca: Her four-RBI performance was part of the Bobcats' 26-2, three-inning rout of Girard.

Bailey Cannon, General McLane: She was the hero of the Lancers' 3-2 road win over McDowell with her two-run, sixth-inning home run and two-out save with the Trojans' bases loaded.

Ella Dworek, Fairview: Her grand slam was one of three home runs the Tigers hit during their 18-8, five-inning win over the Union City Bears.

Hannah Smith, Harbor Creek: Her RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning peluded the Huskies' 8-7, eight-inning win over Seneca.

Jenna Wagner, Cathedral Prep: The St. Joseph’s University recruit struck out 18 General McLane batters and drove in a run for the Ramblers, who beat the Lancers 4-1.

Izzy Nageli, McDowell: Her crooked-numbers line score consisted of three extra-base hits, including two home runs, four runs scored and another three driven in during the Trojans’ 20-5 rout of Erie High.

Gracie Miller, McDowell: Her two-run home run ignited the Trojans to a 6-2 victory at Meadville.

Madison Simmerman, Cathedral Prep: She pitched a complete game and drove in two runs for the Ramblers, who beat Warren 5-1 in their home opener.

Cathryn Reynolds, Union City: She posted crooked numbers (3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs) during the Bears’ 17-2, four-inning rout of Girard.

Kendall Stull, Fort LeBoeuf: A home run highlighted her two-hit, four-RBI effort on offense for the Bison, who only needed four innings for a 17-1 victory vs. Fairview.

Lorelei Hiltabidel, Fort LeBoeuf: She went 4-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs when the Bison won 11-1 at Northwestern.

Georgia Weber, Harbor Creek: The center fielder, despite hitting seventh in the Huskies’ lineup, recorded three hits, scored two runs and drove in two more during their 8-1 win over Fairview.

Boys tennis

Jonah Ng, Cathedral Prep: District 10's reigning Class 2A singles champion won 6-0, 6-0 as the Ramblers' No. 1 singles starter during their 5-0 Region 2 shutout of Fairview.

Gavin Ferretti, Cathedral Prep: His 6-1, 6-0 victory as the Ramblers' No. 1 singles starter was part of their 5-0 dual win over Erie High.

Aditya Turaga, Fairview: The Tigers’ No. 1 singles starter, with current coach Mike Duckett and former coach Rick Sertz watching him, won in straight sets as part of their 4-1 Region 2 dual victory vs. Mercyhurst Prep. ... Earlier, he won that same match during the team's 4-1 non-region dual win against Grove City.

Aryan Noticewala, Cathedral Prep: The No. 3 singles starter for the Rambles won 6-0, 6-0 as part of their 5-0 shutout of Meadville.

Eric Cui, McDowell: His straight-sets win as the Trojans’ No. 3 singles starter was the swing match for their 3-2 non-region dual victory vs. the visiting Warren Dragons.

Boys track and field

Tom Shaughnessy, Cathedral Prep: He won the shot put with a toss of 34 feet, 1 inch and the javelin at 120-5 during the Ramblers’ 86½-63½ Region 6 dual victory against the Erie High Royals.

Charlie Chevalier, Fairview: He won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.36 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 46.61, each of which contributed team points when the Tigers beat Iroquois 97½-42½.

John Styborski, Corry: He finished first in the shot put and discus for the Beavers when they defeated Titusville 109-41.

Ray Jackson, McDowell: He was first in the long jump (20-8) and the triple jump (40-10) during the Trojans’ 82-63 Region 6 dual win against the General McLane Lancers.

Jamari Curlett, North East: One of the state’s best Class 2A sprinters won the 100 meters in 11.18 and the 200 in 22.88 during the Grapepickers’ 114-36 dual win against Northwestern.

Kamden Kramer, McDowell: The Trojans' top distance runner was the gold medalist in the 3,200 (9:49.05) and was part of the winning 3,200 relay team that helped McDowell win the Fort LeBoeuf Invitational’s team title.

Lee Hoover, Seneca: The Bobcats' leading leaper won the long jump (21-5) and triple jump (43-3) at the Fort LeBoeuf Invitational.

Bradon Schneider, Erie: He won the pole vault at the Fort LeBoeuf Invitational by clearing more than 2 feet above the runner-up with an effort of 15-7, one of the top vaults in the state this season.

Nick Krahe, Harbor Creek: The West Virginia University football recruit was an easy winner for the shot put and discus competitions at the Fort LeBoeuf Invitational.

Ryan Miller, Seneca: He swept first place in the hurdle events at the Fort LeBoeuf Invitational.

Girls track and field

Alena Urbanowicz, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison freshman sprinter won the 100 (13.10) and 200 meters (26.64) and ran the anchor leg on the winning 400 relay team at the Fort LeBoeuf Invitational.

Kayley McCall, Cathedral Prep: She was a four-time track winner for the Ramblers during their 122-31 Region 6 dual win over Erie High.

Sara Gennuso, Fairview: She swept the jumping events for the Tigers, who beat Iroquois 75-63 in a Region 5 dual.

Camryn Fox, Corry: She was a track (400 meters) and field (long jump) victor for the Beavers during their 95-54 dual victory vs. the Titusville Rockets.

Dara Fallon, McDowell: The senior swept the sprint races (100 in an even 13 seconds and the 200 in 27.13, during the Trojans’ 103-46 Region 6 dual win over General McLane

Tessa Bemiss, North East: The Grapepickers’ best thrower won the shot put at 26 feet, 10 inches and the discus at 90-10 during their 80-69 dual victory vs. the Northwestern Wildcats. ... She also won the discus (103-5) and javelin (113-1) at the Fort LeBoeuf Invitational on Saturday.

Sarah Clark, Cathedral Prep: She was an individual (3,200) and group (3,200 relay) victor for the Ramblers during their appearance at the TSTCA Outdoor Championships at West Mifflin High School.

Mallory Brinling, Fairview: Her toss of 115-7 was good for first place in the discus competition at the TSTCA Outdoor Championships.

Boys volleyball

Octavian Sperry, Mercyhurst Prep: He totaled 15 kills and eight digs for the Lakers, who swept the Cambridge Springs Blue Devils.

Amarvir Kang, McDowell: He tied for the team lead in kills (six) and led in digs (11) when the Trojans swept the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers.

Boys lacrosse

Owen Callaghan, Cathedral Prep: His eight goals comprised nearly one-third of the Ramblers’ total when they routed Conneaut 23-5.
