Erie-area high school sports Top Performers, Aug. 29-Sept. 2

Top Performers is updated throughout the week at GoErie.com/sports. Highlights from Saturday's events featuring Erie County teams and players will be included in the next Top Performers list because of an early Labor Day weekend deadline.

Football

Clay Thomas, Union City: The running back had 150 yards and three touchdowns when the Bears beat Kennedy Catholic 26-20.

Tyler Corbin, Fairview: The Tigers quarterback was an efficient 6-of-8 passing for 92 yards and two touchdowns during Fairview's clutch 34-15 Region 5 victory at Harbor Creek.

Christian Santiago, McDowell: He scored the Trojans' touchdown during their overtime possession, then recorded a fourth-down sack of Bennett's quarterback to clinch their dramatic 34-28 victory against their Buffalo opponent.

Gabe Messmer, Girard: He threw four touchdown passes and accounted for 182 yards in offense when the YellowJackets' beat North East 31-14 in the teams' Region 5 opener.

Suhtaun Lewis, Cathedral Prep: His 58-yard touchdown reception with 5 seconds left in the fourth quarter was the difference for Ramblers in their dramatic 22-17 victory over Clarkson North.

Boys soccer

Connor Cross, McDowell: The goalkeeper was in net when the Trojans and State College played their scoreless match.

Gio Masone, General McLane: His goal and assist were important when the Lancers won 3-0 at Grove City.

Dakota Longo, Iroquois: He scored three times and assisted on two two other goals for the Braves, who blanked Corry 6-0.

Will Vanderweele, North East: His two goals and two assists contributed to two-thirds of the Grapepickers' goal total when they won 6-2 at Greenville.

Even Moffett, Seneca: When he wasn't in net during the Bobcats' 4-0 shutout of Fairview, he assisted on one of their goals.

Andrew Danch, McDowell: His goal held up during the Trojans' 1-0 victory against Kiski Area.

Stephen Kahuria, Iroquois: His hat trick accounted for nearly half of the Braves' offense when they shut out Conneaut (Ohio) 7-0.

Mason Artz, Girard: He scored twice and assisted on two other goals for the YellowJackets, who beat Corry 5-1.

Mike McGuigan, North East: He scored or assisted on three goals during the Grapepickers' 5-1 victory over Sharon.

Zach Scott, Fairview: He scored two goals and assisted on two others when the Tigers won 7-1 versus Hickory.

Sebastian Wright, Fairview: The junior's hat trick was a good part of the offense for the Tigers when they defeated Hickory 7-1.

Shawn Ganger, Mercyhurst Prep: The returning all-region forward for the Lakers scored during their 4-1 victory over Slippery Rock.

Cooper Robson, General McLane: He recorded a hat trick and assisted twice during the Lancers' 6-1 victory at Meadville.

Girls soccer

Jalis Burgos, Iroquois: She scored the lone goal when the Braves beat Maplewood 1-0.

Brooklyn Respecki, General McLane: She was responsible for much of the offense during the Lancers' 14-0 rout of Greenville with her four goals and four assists.

Abby Wisniewski, Seneca: The returning all-region midfielder for the Bobcats scored during their 3-0 victory at Girard.

Marisa Schnars, Mercyhurst Prep: The two goals she scored for the Lakers were enough for them to defeat Fairview 2-1.

Callie Cacchione, Cathedal Prep: She recorded a hat trick and an assist when the Ramblers, in the program's school debut, blanked Erie High 8-0.

Leya Bretz, Harbor Creek: Her six goals accounted for more than half of the Huskies' offense when they routed Meadville 10-0.

Lexi Scholar, Corry: The freshman scored three times when the Beavers defeated Iroquois 7-0 in a non-region match.

Boys golf

Camden Delsandro, McDowell: His round of 79 was the lowest for the Trojans' Blue team that won the North Hills Invitational at Corry.

Carson Rzodkiewicz, Harbor Creek: His nine-hole round of 42 was the lowest for the Huskies when they beat General McLane 278-284 in a dual at North East's Green Meadows Golf Course.

Ross Morrow, General McLane: He was the individual medalist (40) for the Lancers' dual versus Harbor Creek at Green Meadows Golf Course in North East.

Anthony Laboda, Fairview: The Tigers, with a team score of 355, won a Region 5 mega-match at North East's Lake View Country Club in large part because of his round of 83.

Nathan Feltmeyer, Fort LeBoeuf: He was the individual medalist with an 82 for a Region 5 mega-match played at Lake View Country Club in North East.

Girls golf

Anna Swan, North East: Her 2-under par 34 was the lowest nine-hole round for a Region 2 mega-match that the Grapepickers won at Scenic Heights Golf Course. She also was the individual medalist at 1-over 37 for the nine-hole region mega-match held at North East's Lake View Country Club.

Cora Hirz, Fairview: Her nine-hole stroke total of 44 contributed to the Tigers' first District 10 region-mega match victory in team history, according to coach Ryan Quiggle.

Elizabeth D'Andrea, Erie High: She was co-medalist with her nine-hole round of 37 when the Royals played McDowell and Meadville in a Region 3 mega-match.

Analise Wolf, McDowell: She tied for first (39) among the Trojans when they beat Erie High and Meadville in a Region 3 mega-match.

Alexis Marsh, McDowell: Her 39 matched the one Wolf recorded during the Trojans' region dual with Erie High and Meadville.

Girls tennis

Vivian Liu, Fairview: The Tigers' 4-1 dual victory over McDowell included the freshman's 6-0, 6-0 win.

Sophia Glance, Cathedral Prep: Her 6-0, 6-0 victory as the Ramblers' No. 3 singles starter was their easiest when they blanked Mercyhurst Prep 5-0.

Lina Warrier, McDowell: Her three-set victory in No. 2 singles was the most competitive match when the Trojans topped Buffalo's Nichols Academy 4-1.

Mackenzie Bruce, Erie High: Her 6-0, 6-0 win as the Royals' No. 3 singles starter contributed to their 5-0 non-region dual victory vs. Conneaut (Ohio).

Vanessa Jarmolowicz, Mercyhurst Prep: Her 6-0, 7-5 victory in No. 3 singles was the swing match for the Lakers when they defeated Wilmington 3-2 in a non-region dual.

Enisa Siljkovic, Erie High: The returning all-district senior won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 when the Royals won a 5-0 non-region dual against Jamestown (New York).

Girls volleyball

Michayla Magee, Union City: She totaled nine kills, 11 assists and six service aces when the Bears swept Youngsville.

Samantha Zank, Harbor Creek: Her seven kills were the most for any Huskie during the team's three-set sweep of rival Iroquois. The Huskies' previous match saw her record seven kills and five digs when they beat Cathedral Prep in three sets.

Khyli Peterson, Seneca: Her eight kills were the most for the Bobcats during their three-set sweep of Erie First Christian.

Macy Testa, McDowell: Her double-double (11 kills, 10 digs) helped the Trojans top Fairview in three sets.

Addica Sperry, Mercyhurst Prep: Her nine kills and eight digs were part of the Lakers' three-set sweep of Eisenhower. She also recorded a double-double (14 kills, 12 digs) during the Lakers' four-set victory over Seneca.

Grace Abele, Iroquois: Her six kills were part of a consistent attack by the Braves when they beat Erie High in four sets.

Lilli Mook, General McLane: She totaled 12 kills, 10 digs and served six aces during the Lancers' three-set sweep of Fairview.

Cadence Jones, North East: Her 14 kills and six digs highlighted the Grapepickers' three-set sweep of Harbor Creek.

Boys water polo

Mitchell Bradford, Cathedral Prep: He recorded four goals when the Ramblers defeated rival McDowell 14-4.

Aidan Levis, Cathedral Prep: He scored four times during the Ramblers' victory vs. McDowell.

Girls water polo

Mia Shaughnessy, Cathedral Prep: She scored four times when the Ramblers recorded the school's first victory in the sport with a 15-6 win over Fairview.

Claire Gebhardt, McDowell: The Trojans' top returning player scored five times when they beat Cathedral Prep 9-5 in the teams' season debut.
