Top Performers: These players turned in memorable performances last week
It's the midway point of the fall season, and these players have made sure to step up their games.
From game-winning goals to lockdown defense, see which players stood out last week in soccer, field hockey, golf, girls' volleyball and cross country.

Friday Night Highlights! Mason Bynum, Brady Pagano lead Hatboro-Horsham to first win since 2019
Boys Soccer
Mike Brusca, Council Rock North
Brusca scored twice, including the game-winner, to lead the Indians past North Penn 4-2.
CJ Dimmick, Pennridge
The Rams’ goalie posted a shutout in a 2-0 win against Neshaminy.
Gianluca D’Alterio, Lansdale Catholic
D’Atlerio scored the game-winning goal in double overtime as the Crusaders prevailed in a 3-2 win over Conwell-Egan in Catholic League play.
Liam Hartman, Abington
Hartman scored four goals in a 6-0 win over New Hope-Solebury.
Tony Kuhner, Hatboro-Horsham
Kuhner scored the game-winning goal in two straight games, as the Hatters picked up a pair of 1-0 wins over Lower Moreland and Springfield Township.
Ethan Lacher, Souderton
Lachter netted two second-half goals to lift Souderton over Neshaminy 3-1, for the Indians' fourth straight win.
Enzo Petruzzelli, Archbishop Wood
Petruzzelli scored the lone goal to lift the Vikings to a 1-0 decision over previously undefeated Father Judge in a huge Catholic League win.
Stone Renshaw, Quakertown
Renshaw came through in a big way for the Panthers, who were still seeking their first win last week. Renshaw scored twice to net the Panthers (1-8) a 2-1 victory against Upper Moreland.
Frankie Rafferty, Council Rock South
Rafferty had a foot in all three goals, scoring two and assisting on one, to lead the Golden Hawks to a 3-1 win over North Penn.
Noah Schlosser, Hatboro-Horsham
The Hatters’ goalie recorded five saves, three of which occurred in the final minute of play, and secured the 1-0 win with the shutout of Lower Moreland.
Field Hockey
Stacy Couillard, Harry S. Truman
The Tigers’ goalie put forth an outstanding effort in goal against a high-powered CB West team. While the Tigers didn’t get the win, Couillard saved an impressive 12 shots on goal.
Ava Cozza, Sophia Cozza, New Hope-Solebury
The Cozza sisters were at the top of their game once again. In a 5-1 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh, Ava scored two goals, with Sophia assisting on both. Sophia added another assist in the game on a Mia Patino goal. The Lions improved to 8-0 with the win.
Kylee Hager, Council Rock South
Hager scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Golden Hawks a 2-1 win over CB South in an SOL crossover game.
Ava Jones, Souderton
Jones’ superb sophomore campaign continued with a three-goal game in the Indians’ 6-0 win against Pennsbury. Jones then came up with the game-winner in a 1-0 win, dealing Neshaminy its second loss of the season in an SOL crossover match.
Avery McGinty, Neshaminy
Neshaminy’s captain scored an early goal that would turn out to be the game-winner in a 2-0 win against North Penn in an SOL crossover game. The win, which came after Neshaminy’s first loss of the season to Downingtown West, avenged last season’s matchup, when North Penn defeated Neshaminy 5-0.

Payton Murth, Pennridge
Murth scored three times for the hat trick in the Rams’ 5-0 win against Pennsbury.
Brittany Mattoi, Neshaminy
Mattoi made several tough saves to help Neshaminy secure a 2-1 win over Pennridge.
Caroline Martin, Council Rock South
Martin scored three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, in the Golden Hawks 4-3 win over North Penn.
Meg McClure, Pennsbury
McClure played a part in all three of Pennsbury’s goals, scoring one and assisting on two more, helping the Falcons end a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over CB East.
Emily Nelson, Hatboro-Horsham
The Hatters’ first win of the season was fittingly dramatic. Simpson, a senior midfielder, scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Hatters a 1-0 triumph against William Tennent.
Lucy McFadden, Germantown Academy
McFadden scored both of the Patriots’ goals in a 2-1 win against Agnes Irwin in their Inter-Ac league opener.
Megan Roth, Quakertown
The Panthers’ junior defensive anchor helped secure a shutout in a 2-0 win against Springfield Township. The win was the fourth straight for the Panthers, who started the season 0-4.
Leah Schwalm, Quakertown
The Panthers’ sophomore scored an early goal that turned out to be the game-winner in a 1-0 win over William Tennent. The win was the fifth straight for the Panthers.
Laurel Tonkinson, Archbishop Wood
The Vikings’ goalie delivered a shutout in Wood’s win over PCL rival St. Hubert’s.
Girls Volleyball
Teya McConaha, Souderton
McConaha tallied 12 kills, six digs, two aces and a block to lead the Indians in a 3-0 sweep of Archbishop Carroll.
Edan Kauer, Council Rock South
The Golden Hawks’ junior outside hitter had 17 kills, 12 digs and four aces in a 3-1 win over New Hope-Solebury.
Molly Milewski, Conwell-Egan
In three matches last week, Milewski tallied 59 assists, 15 digs, and eight aces. The Eagles won all three matches and improved to 11-0.

Kiera Banks, Conwell-Egan
Banks recorded 22 kills, 20 digs and three aces in three matches, helping the Eagles (11-0) stay undefeated on the season.
Brooke Forester, Conwell-Egan
The Eagles’ sophomore middle/outside hitter was a force on defense and the attack. In three matches last week, all wins, Forester tallied 12 kills, 19 blocks, 14 digs, and five aces as the Eagles improved to 11-0.
Girls Tennis
Maya Kowalska, George School
Kowalska had a huge week for the Cougars. In a FSL match against Friends Select, Kowalska swept both sets in first singles (6-0, 6-0). Against both Abington Friends School and Stuart Day, Kowalska cruised to the win in second singles (both 6-0, 6-0). The Cougars won all three matches.
Girls Soccer
Abby Allen, Souderton
While things haven’t been easy for Souderton this season, the Indians’ goalie has been a standout performer. Allen made several saves in goal against a strong Neshaminy team, including on a penalty kick.
Brooke Chipman, Gwynedd Mercy
Chipman scored two goals and assisted on another in the Monarchs’ 5-0 win over St. Hubert’s.
Ava DeGeorge, Archbishop Wood
DeGeorge netted a goal and an assist as the Vikings defeated one of their biggest rivals, Archbishop Ryan, in a 3-0 Catholic League win that was a rematch of last season’s PCL championship game. DeGeorge had a hat trick, plus an assist, in the Vikings’ win over Little Flower.
Emily Marks, Germantown Academy
The Patriots’ junior goalkeeper made the best out of a tough situation in a game against Agnes Irwin. Down 3-1 at halftime, Marks entered the game in the second half and shutout Agnes Irwin the rest of the way, keeping the Patriots in the game.
Mercedez Paino, Kylie Maxwell, Neshaminy
Against an undefeated Pennridge, Paino put Neshaminy on the board with an early goal. Maxwell then hit the game-winner, after the Rams tied it up, to give Neshaminy a 2-1 win.
Piper McGinley, Maura Day, Abington
It was a double-hat trick kind of day for the high-scoring Ghosts. McGinley and Day scored three goals apiece, accounting for all the scoring in the 6-0 win against New Hope-Solebury.
Billinda Leisner, Dock Mennonite
Leisner scored both of the Pioneers’ goals, with the second coming in double overtime, to give the Pioneers a 2-1 win over Palisades.
Mary Nagle, Central Bucks South
Nagle scored twice to give the Titans their first win in their last five games, in a 3-0 victory against Bensalem.
Karissa Smedley, Council Rock South
The Golden Hawks’ goalkeeper saved five shots on net to secure the 1-0 win against CB South in an SOL crossover game.
Abby Shumski, Pennsbury
Shumski scored the lone goal late in the game to give the Falcons a 1-0 win over Souderton.
Carolyn Sipprell, Quakertown
The Panthers’ senior had a memorable game on Senior Night. Sipprell scored the first goal of the game, and the last, which was the game-winner in overtime, in a 3-2 victory over Wiliam Tennent.
Kim Speiser, Council Rock South
Speiser hit the back of the net with a free kick to deliver the Golden Hawks’ 1-0 win over CB South.
Julia Stebens, Emery Mooney, Diana Zhang, George School
Down 2-0 at halftime, the Cougars came back to score three unanswered goals in the second half to take the 3-2 win over Germantown Friends. Stebens, Mooney and Zhang each contributed a goal in the comeback. Stebens and Mooney also had a goal apiece in the Cougars’ 3-2 win over Lansdale Catholic, a game which the Cougars trailed 2-1 at halftime.
Ellie Verrill, Gwynedd Mercy
Verill recorded two saves and notched another shutout in the Monarchs’ 5-0 win over Merion Mercy. It was Verrill’s 10th solo clean sheet as a starter for the Monarchs’ varsity team, and her 22nd combined shutout. Verrill also made six tough saves against Villa Joseph Marie, in a 2-1 loss that went to OT, and three saves in a combined shutout of St. Hubert’s.
Golf
Brendan Reilly, Central Bucks South
Reilly shot a par-36, to lead all golfers, as CB South defeated New Hope-Solebury 199-207 at the Bucks Club.
Nicky Riscica, Council Rock North
The Indians’ senior led all golfers with a 35 in a 196-216 win over Neshaminy at the Spring Mill Country Club.
John Stevenson, La Salle
Stevenson shot a 2-under par round of 34 at Whitemarsh Country Club to lead the Explorers over Haverford School. Stevenson followed up with an even-par round of 35 at Merion Golf Course in a win against Episcopal Academy. The Explorers improved to 14-1 with the win.
Cross Country
Lillian DiCola, Hatboro-Horsham
The Hatters’ sophomore took fourth place in the PIAA Foundation Cross Country Invitational’s girls 3A race. DiCola finished with a time of 18:45 in a race that included 244 runners. DiCola’s time qualified for a MileSplit Elite Performance.
Rebekah Hickey, Quakertown
The Panthers’ senior runner had a great showing in a meet against Plymouth Whitemarsh. Hickey finished first overall with a time of 20:43, which was a full two minutes faster than the second-place time.
Emily Simko, Hatboro-Horsham
Simko finished eighth, out of 244 runners, in the PIAA Foundation Cross Country Invitational’s girls 3A race with a time of 19:26.
Gwen Hamilton, Archbishop Wood
The Vikings’ freshman runner took first place in the Philadelphia Catholic League’s cross country meet. Hamilton finished with a time of 20:57.00, while the next runner didn’t cross the finish line until 22:40.50. Hamilton has claimed first place in both PCL meets this season.
Riley Rooney, Central Bucks South
Rooney, a sophomore, finished second in the Council Rock Invitational girls varsity race with a time of 19:36.28.
Brian DiCola, Hatboro-Horsham
DiCola took home gold in the PIAA Foundation Cross Country Invitational’s boys 3A race. The Hatters’ senior crossed the finish line at 15:52, clinching first place by 11 seconds. The race featured 233 runners.
Aiden Maue, Souderton
Maue took first place in the Souderton Twilight Invitational with a time of 15:55.10.
Matthew Gorman, Conwell-Egan
Gorman finished second in the Philadelphia Catholic League’s cross country meet. Gorman, a junior, had a time of 17:58.10.
Aum Desai, Solebury School
Desai took first place in the Penn Jersey Invitational boys' race with a time of 18:55.00.
