The top American man, Taylor Fritz, just won the Delray Beach Open last Sunday. Now the top-ranked American woman will be playing in Delray Beach shortly.

Jessica Pegula, ranked third in the world, has committed to the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier that will be played April 14-15 at the Delray Beach Tennis Center, The Palm Beach Post has learned.

Pegula, the daughter of the Buffalo Bills/Sabres owner who has lived in Boca Raton for several years, will join Delray Beach native Coco Gauff on the USA team that will face Austria in the international team event once known as the Federation Cup. The BJK Cup finals occur in November.

On Sunday, Pegula lost in the finals in Qatar to Iga Swiatek but teamed with Gauff to win the doubles title. Gauff is ranked 6th in the world. It’s the first time USA has had two top-6 players since 2005 when Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams repped the red, white and blue.

The squad will feature five players and deadline for commitment is March 13th. There’s hope from USTA organizers the Williams sisters, who live in Palm Beach Gardens, will be involved in some capacity. Serena has retired but Venus is still playing. Tickets can be bought on Ticketmaster.com.
