Top-ranked UConn routs Creighton to clinch Big East regular-season title

Feb. 26—Nika Muhl had 19 points and Olivia Nelson-Ododa recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the top-ranked UConn women's basketball team in an 81-49 Big East Conference victory Thursday over Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska.

UConn clinched the Big East's regular-season title for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Before joining the American Athletic Conference for the 2013-14 season, UConn won 37 Big East titles, 19 in the regular season and 18 tournament championships.

UConn, unbeaten in seven seasons in the AAC, has not lost a regular season conference game since March 4, 2013.

Christyn Williams added 16 points for UConn (19-1, 16-0), Paige Bueckers had 13 points, nine assists and four steals and Evina Westbrook and Aaliyah Edwards each had nine points. Muhl, a freshman who shot 8-for-13 in the game, also contributed five steals.

Temi Carda had 24 points for Creighton (7-9, 6-6).

UConn led 42-21 at halftime behind 15 from Muhl on 6 of 8 shooting. Muhl's previous career high was 11 points in a Feb. 3 game vs. St. John's at Gampel Pavilion.

The Huskies will finish their current five-game road trip on Saturday at Butler in Indianapolis before playing their regular-season finale Monday at home against Marquette.
