Top Somerset County baseball and softball performers for May 23-26

Athlete of the Week

Deborah Bozovich, a Shanksville-Stonycreek freshman student-athlete who competes in a co-op with Shade, was named Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while Conemaugh Township junior Ethan Black was selected Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts May 13-19.

Bozovich, who just returned from a knee injury, dusted the field in the 400 dash at the District 5 Class 2A track and field championships to earn a trip to states.

Meanwhile, Black set new District 5 Class 2A track and field championship meet records in the 100- and 200-dash. He also ran the anchor leg of the 400 relay team which finished second but qualified for states based on time.

Baseball

District 5 Class 1A semifinals

Rockwood 6, Berlin Brothersvalley 2: Jack Pletcher and Hunter Whipkey each had two hits and two RBIs as the top-seeded Rockets bested the No. 5 Mountaineers.

Pletcher hit a 2-run homer. Luke Beahr pitched two innings of scoreless ball for Rockwood. Carson Modrak went 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, striking out four while Pletcher recorded the final two outs of the game.

Carson Webreck and Craig Jarvis each drove in a run for Berlin.

The Mountaineers finished the season 11-9.

District 5-8-9 Class 4A semifinals

Somerset 8, Obama Academy 1: In Somerset, Aiden VanLenten tossed a complete game 3-hitter as the Golden Eagles punched a ticket to the title game.

Nolan Riggs had two hits, including a 2-run single. VanLenten tallied two RBIs. Owen Miller added a pair of hits.

Softball

District 5 Class 2A semifinals

Chestnut Ridge 3, Windber 0: In New Paris, the No. 3 seeded Ramblers fell to the No. 2 Lions.

Skylee Miller and Isabelle Byer each hit a double for Windber.

The Ramblers finished the season 11-8.

District 5 Class 2A quarterfinals

Everett 8, Conemaugh Township 0: In Everett, Jackson Byer and Luke Weber had the lone hits as the No. 4 seeded Indians fell to the top-seeded Warriors.

Conemaugh Township finished the season 14-7.

North Star 3, Windber 1: In Boswell, Vance Kimmel, Jeremy Mack and Cayden Turner each had an RBI as the No. 2 seeded Cougars upended the No. 3 Ramblers.

Turner pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on six hits, two walks and striking out five.

Anthony Domineck recorded two hits and an RBI for Windber (11-9). Cole Strick added a double. Joey Reynolds pitched five innings and allowed three runs on four hits, two walks and struck out three.

Softball

District 5 Class 1A quarterfinals

Meyersdale 13, Fannett-Metal 0: In Meyersdale, Zoe Hetz had three hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored as the top-seeded Red Raiders blanked the Tigers in five innings.

Izabella Donaldson tallied three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. She allowed two hits and two walks in five innings, striking out eight. Amber Long, Marcella Dupre and Jessica Daughton each recorded two hits. Daughton homered.

Shade 11, McConnellsburg 10: In Cairnbrook, the No. 2 seeded Panthers rallied for a come-from-behind victory over the No. 7 Spartans.

Cassidy Mauger and Jenna Muha each went 4-for-4 for Shade. Mauger tallied a triple, two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Muha hit a solo home run, delivered two RBIs and scored three runs. Tara Corradini, Jaedyn Krupper and Anna Deneen each contributed two hits.

Southern Fulton 2, Rockwood 1: The No. 3 seeded Rockets were upset by the No. 6 Indians.

Kenadie Robosson tallied two hits for Rockwood. Kaitlyn King and Elika Pletcher each provided a hit while Meghan Bowers scored the lone run.

Rockwood finished the season 8-6.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 20, Berlin Brothersvalley 11: In Shanksville, Josie Snyder, Kori and Tara Boozer, Rylee Snyder and Allie Zeigler all had two RBIs as the No. 4 seeded Vikings bested the No. 5 Mountaineers in another slugfest.

Kori Boozer, Kendahl Stutzman and Liz Salsgiver each had three hits for Shanksville.

Kassidy Smith, Mckenzie Moore and Rori Allen each had two RBIs for Berlin. Smith, Mikaela Huston, Taylor Hillegass and Sadie Snyder all had two hits.

Berlin finished the season 5-13.

District 5 Class 1A quarterfinals

Rockwood 10, Turkeyfoot 0: In Rockwood, Jonathan Felesky tossed a one-hitter, striking out six as the top-seeded Rockets blanked the No. 8 Rams in five innings.

Luke Beahr tallied a hit, three RBIs and a run scored. Andrew Weaver produced two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Carson Modrak tripled and drove in a run.

Jesse Culp had Turkeyfoot's lone hit. The Rams finished 4-12.

Berlin Brothersvalley 9, Shanksville-Stonycreek 6: In Shanksville, Pace Prosser and Craig Jarvis each had three hits and scored a run as the No 5 seeded Mountaineers knocked off the No. 4 Vikings.

Tyler Miller struck out four and earned the win for Berlin. He helped his cause with two hits.

Ty Walker hit a 2-run home run and scored twice for Shanksville, which finished 9-8 on the year. Braxton Faidley added two hits.

Southern Fulton 17, Meyersdale 0: In Warfordsburg, the No. 7 seed Red Raiders were no-hit by the No. 2 Indians in three innings.

Meyersdale finished 5-12.

District 5 Class 2A play-in

Conemaugh Township 5, McConnellsburg 4: In Davidsville, Larry Weaver recorded two hits and an RBI as the Indians edged the Spartans.

Jackson Byer, Brady Kist, Tyler Weber and Aiden Prior each had an RBI for Conemaugh Township.

Weber pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits, three walks and struck out two to earn the win. Kist pitched a scoreless sixth, recording two strikeouts while Byer picked up the save.

Softball

Meyersdale 11, Southern Fulton 1: In Meyersdale, Jessica Daughton went 3-for-4 to lead the Red Raiders past the Indians.

Marcella Dupre, Zoe Hetz, Shelby Hetz and Amelia Kretchman each had two hits. Kretchman hit a solo home run. Izabella Donaldson allowed one run on four hits, three walks while striking out seven.
