The building that once housed JAKS sports bar on 6014 N. Ninth Ave. has found a new tenant in Chasing Cars Pizza and Grill, which debuted last week in Pensacola.

The restaurant is named for restaurant operator Chris McMillan’s enthusiasm for cool cars.

McMillan, CEO and founder of the Panhandle Restaurant Group, owns several other franchises across the region, like Slim Chickens and Sonic, but has started branching out to develop new, original brands.

Using the three original restaurants that he has opened and developed menus for so far — a seafood place, a rib restaurant and a pizza joint — he created Chasing Cars as a culmination of the best of all three.

5 Flags Brewing Co., at 5642 Woodbine Road, sits between a Publix and a Whataburger within walking distance of several Five Points area subdivisions.

The brewery’s General Manager Cameron Burttschell, a Milton native, said the location is meant for locals and that it can help fill in a gap in the area.

There is a brand new homemade ice cream shop in the East Pensacola Heights neighborhood.

While the business is less than a week old, the recipes inside have plenty of history.

Rhodes has concocted his own original Pensacola-themed flavors, which include the Bushwacker, Graffiti Bridge and DeLuna Spiced Chocolate, and a tasty treat with a misleading name: Pelican Poo.

For all the Navarre residents craving home-fried chicken on the run, Arkansas-born restaurant Slim Chickens is scheduled to open its newest location Halloween day on 8006 Navarre Parkway.

The Southern-style chicken joint prides itself on its fresh, 24-hour buttermilk-brined tenders that merited the company's name in 2003, accompanied by Southern sides like fried okra and 17 different sauces.

Guests looking for something on the lighter side have not been excluded from the Slim Chickens splendor, and can choose from the restaurant's wraps, salads and signature sandwiches.
