Top Texas prospect Adhel Tac commits to Gamecock women’s basketball

Adhel Tac, the No. 33 recruit in the Class of 2024, announced her commitment to South Carolina women’s basketball Friday.

Tac is the second 2024 commitment for Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks. The high school senior joins five-star prospect Maddy McDaniel, who pledged to play for USC live on ESPNU during a broadcast of the Next 24 Elite Game in Atlanta on Aug. 12.

Tac chose USC over North Carolina, Louisville and Georgia. She announced those four teams as her top schools on top Aug. 29. Tac posted pictures on Instagram from an official visit to South Carolina on Sept. 26.

She is the fourth-ranked post player in her class. Tac fills a significant recruiting hole for the Gamecocks, who did not sign a traditional post player in their 2023 class and missed out on other top 2024 post player Blanca Thomas (No. 29 overall recruit, No. 2 post player; committed to UNC) earlier this year.

The 6-foot-5, four-star senior is regarded as the top girls basketball player in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She averaged 14.1 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game as a sophomore (her first season on varsity) according to the Dallas Morning News. Her high school, South Grand Prairie, competes in the state’s largest high school classification. The Warriors were 6A state championship runners-up Tac’s sophomore year.

She missed most of her junior season with an undisclosed injury. Prior to the injury, she was ranked the No. 12 recruit in the country. According to GamecockCentral, Tac has since recovered and played AAU basketball this summer.
