The recent Ukrainian military strike targeting Russian forces in the temporarily occupied Olenivka, Donetsk Oblast, was a meticulously planned operation executed by Ukraine’s security and defense forces, Ukraine’s military Intelligence (HUR) spokesperson, Andriy Yusov, said in an interview with Radio Liberty on Feb. 29.

“Military intelligence is working to identify places where the enemy is concentrated: manpower and equipment,” Yusov explained.

“In this situation, the operation was perfectly executed, utilizing promptly acquired information to deliver a significant blow to the enemy.”

This strike was not an isolated incident, as similar operations are planned for the future, noted the military intelligence representative.

When asked about how the intelligence service obtains information regarding the accumulation of Russian troops in the occupied territory or the planned formation of Russian forces, Yusov described it as a “combined story.”

“The information is gathered from multiple sources to ensure its accuracy,” the spokesman emphasized.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed on Feb. 29 that the Ukrainian Defense Forces had launched a missile attack on Russian troops in the temporarily occupied Olenivka, Donetsk Oblast, resulting in the deaths of at least 19 Russian soldiers.

Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated the deputy commander of a military unit, with approximately 12 Russians sustaining injuries, including the unit’s commander.

Russian social media groups alleged on Feb. 27 that Ukrainian Armed Forces fired HIMARS missiles at Russian troops during an award ceremony in Olenivka.
