Top Workplaces 2022: These 22 companies joined the Southeastern Wisconsin list for the first time

This year’s Top Workplaces for Southeastern Wisconsin list includes 22 businesses joining for the first time.

One company new to the list is Darien-based Royal Basket Trucks, a basket truck and parts manufacturer. In business for 40 years, Royal Basket Trucks is a growing privately owned company that continues to manufacture products for a variety of industries.

Nick Schrader, Sales & Marketing Associate at Royal Basket Trucks, said making this year’s Top Workplaces for Southeastern Wisconsin list is exciting because of the company's efforts to engage its employees.

In a year that has caused employee retention problems for many companies, Schrader said Royal was able to retain employees by investing in them.

“One of the things that allowed us to keep our employees is the benefits package that we offer,” Schrader said.

“To offer something like that, it's more than just a job — it's a career. I mean, here at a place like this you see people for half the day. We are like your family.”

Royal also offers comprehensive training, expert safety consulting and language courses for employees who want to improve their English skills.

Circa elevated its sense of purpose

For Circa, a workforce recruiting and compliance solutions company, a brand name change in 2019 marked the start of an internal mission to reshape the company.

The COVID pandemic allowed Circa to elevate its sense of purpose and use that to exact its mission of transforming businesses through the cultivation of diverse teams.

Circa President and CEO Patrick Sheahan explained that in a fickle job market he takes pride in the sense of continuity his company has been able to keep. However, Sheahan and Circa are not afraid of change as they used the emergence of the online workplace to diversify the talent they were able to find.

“We've had to be really flexible in our approach to where we recruit people from. Given that we're in a hybrid work environment now, it's actually benefited us that we can recruit people from all over the globe,” Sheahan said.

As for making the Top Workplaces list for the first time, Sheahan said being recognized is fulfilling, but it is especially important because it confirms to him that Milwaukee-based Circa is doing something right.

“To have the honor to win an award like this is great feedback that we're on the right path, and our work is not done. Just because we've won an award like this doesn't mean that we can kind of rest on our laurels,” Sheahan said.

Genesis10 enjoys rapid growth

Genesis10, a talent, workforce solutions and technology consulting firm, has enjoyed rapid growth in the past two years, and attributes this to its culture that is defined by active listening and mutual respect.

With all the change that has coincided with the company's growth, Joseph Jens, senior vice president at Genesis10, explained that maintaining a desirable culture means you have to be willing to change it.

“Every time somebody comes in, it's a new culture because you have a new person, and so, incorporating that starts with character. We're a company that hires character, people with good character, and then we teach them the technical parts of the job,” said Jens.

A focus on communication, especially with the changes in the past two years, helped Genesis10 make the list for the first time, Jens said. Genesis10 is based in New York, and its Wisconsin headquarters is in Milwaukee.

“First, you want to try to understand where the other person's coming from before you move forward, so that active listening is an important part of our culture,” he said.

With the rollout of the Dev10 program, which hires candidates with passion and aptitude to be software developers and data professionals, Genesis10 is excited about the future.
