Topeka-area basketball make their marks at mid-season tournaments. Here are the results.
The Topeka-area boys basketball teams and a couple of the girls teams were in action last week at their mid-season tournaments with the rest of the girls tournaments coming the following week.
Here's a roundup of the action and how they did.

Cair Paravel
The Cair Paravel boys and girls played at the McLouth Tournament with the boys coming in as the top seed while the girls were the fifth seed.
The boys team would won their first game over host McLouth on Tuesday. They won 71-32 led by senior Zack Clark with 25 points and advanced to play Horton on Friday.
After a 69-56 win over Horton they claimed the tournament title with a 73-31 overtime win over the second seed Pleasant Ridge.
The girls would advance to the title game with wins over Maur Hill, 39-31, and Marantha, 46-32, before falling to Riverside in the title game, 51-21.
Hayden
The Hayden boys basketball team participated in the 61st Topeka Invitational Tournament placing seventh in a tough field.
First, on Thursday, they fell to Wichita Northwest, 63-46, before facing Shawnee Mission North on Friday.
They dropped that game, 63-49, but ended the tournament on a positive note with a 43-41 win over Topeka High on Saturday.
Highland Park
Highland Park went 2-1 at the Topeka Invitational Tournament.
First was a win over Shawnee Mission North, 65-57, on Thursday, followed by a loss to Wichita Northwest, 66-60, the next day.
On Saturday, they bounced back with a win over St. Mary's, 77-50, to claim third place.
Rossville
The Rossville boys and girls basketball teams played at the Oskaloosa Mid-Season Tournament with the boys going 1-2.
The boys won their first game over Atchison County, 48-40, but then lost to Valley Falls, 62-46, and Jefferson County North, 45-33, in their next two games.
Seaman
The Seaman boys took part in the 58th annual McPherson Invitational and finished fourth.
First, they beat Blue Valley, 63-55, on Thursday, followed by a loss to St. James, 70-63, on Friday.
In the third-place game against McPherson on Saturday, they fell 72-68 with a comeback coming up just short.
Shawnee Heights
The Shawnee Heights boys had a strong showing at the Viking Classic, advancing to the championship game before falling.
First, they beat Wyandotte, 51-45, to open the tournament. That was followed by a 73-54, blowout of Lansing to advance to the title game where they fell 71-34 to Shawnee Mission Northwest.
Silver Lake
The Silver Lake boys and girls basketball teams played in the Burlington Tournament last week, with the boys going 0-3 and the girls going 2-1.
The boys dropped their first game on Tuesday against Labette County, 43-40. Against Rock Creek, a 54-43 loss. In their final game against Independence, they dropped a close game, 50-44.
On the girls side, they won their first game over Sabetha, 52-40, to advance to play Independence and won 48-18. In the championship game against Rock Creek, they lost 60-55.
Topeka High
Topeka High finished eighth at the Topeka Invitational Tournament after dropping games to St. Marys, Lawrence and Hayden.
First, they played St. Marys and fell in a nail biter, 51-50. That was followed by a loss to 73-62 to Lawrence that was competitive throughout before wrapping up their tournament with another close 43-41 loss to Hayden on Saturday.
Topeka West
Topeka West won the Topeka Invitational Tournament, their first since 2004, going 3-0 with a win over Lawrence, 59-57, in the first game.
They blew out St. Marys, 77-50, advanced to the finals against Wichita Northwest and pulled away late to win 64-56.
Washburn Rural
The Washburn Rural boys traveled to compete at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational and placed fourth in a tough field.
First, they beat Piper in their opening game, 55-47, before falling to fellow Centennial League foe Junction City, in a great overtime game, 61-57.
Washburn Rural closed out the tournament Raytown South, falling in another close game, 54-51.
