Ten years after Rasmussen University established a Topeka campus, the school is moving a few miles south.

The private, for-profit university announced earlier this week that it will vacate its 620 S.W. Governors View campus following the end of the school's third quarter in March 2023. Students will resume classes at a bigger, new campus building at 3712 S.W. Burlingame Road.

"Our current campus we are in really needed upgraded laboratory and simulation areas," said Jason Allen, executive director of the Topeka campus. "We wanted to stay competitive with other colleges and universities in the area, and current with industry changes."

Among other building and classroom upgrades, the new campus building will include a nursing skills laboratory and simulation center, which will include three simulation rooms, a nursing station, two control rooms, two debrief rooms, a medication room and a prep room.

Although the building will be catered to the university's nursing program students, who make up the bulk of Rasmussen's in-person students, Allen said other online students in other programs will have access to the building's facilities as well. He is not yet sure what will happen with the university's current Topeka facility.

Based out of Minnesota, Rasmussen University operates 22 campuses in six states, including two in Kansas. It first started enrolling and teaching students at its Topeka campus in spring 2013.

"This is a really exciting move that marks our 10th anniversary of serving students in the Topeka area," Allen said. "We're proud of the impact we've made, and we're certainly excited to celebrate this milestone."
