Republican Rep. Jesse Borjon has filed for reelection to represent the southwest Topeka area in the Kansas Legislature.

Borjon announced Tuesday that he had filed for reelection to District 52 of the Kansas House of Representatives in 2024. He was first elected in 2020 and was reelected in 2022.

"Topeka has always been my home and I am proud to fight on behalf of our community in the Kansas Legislature," Borjon said in a statement. "I look forward to finding more ways to help our local economy grow, our students succeed and our families prosper."

He touted his legislative work helping GO Topeka, the Gage Park Improvement Authority, Washburn University, the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority and local schools.

Borjon is a Topeka native, Washburn graduate and small business owner. His wife, Stacie, is a high school biology teacher and they have three children. They own and operate a property management company and a retail store and are members of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Borjon also serves on the Kansas Children's Discovery Center board.

In the Legislature, Borjon is vice chair of the House Commerce, Labor and Economic Development Committee in addition to serving on committees on energy, judiciary, legislative modernization and Capitol preservation. He is also vice chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures' technology and communications committee.

His most recent campaign finance report shows he had about $16,000 in cash on hand at the end of 2022.

Kansas Secretary of State's Office records don't show any other candidates filed for the seat, which is one of 12 that Shawnee County will have in the Legislature after redistricting.

District 52 starts with a western border at S.W. Hodges Road and a southern border at S.W. 61st Street. The northern border starts at the Kansas River and the eastern border starts near S.W. Gage Blvd., but those boundaries meet up near S.W. 29th Street and S.W. Urish Road.

That encompasses portions of southwest Topeka city limits, all of the Sherwood Improvement District and part of rural southwest Shawnee County.
