Topeka police arrest second man in East Topeka fatal shooting of Gabriel Martinez-Meraz

Topeka police arrested a second man Tuesday in connection with last week's East Topeka fatal shooting of Gabriel Martinez-Meraz, 33.

Isaiah P. Myers, 29, of Topeka, was booked at 9 p.m. Tuesday into the Shawnee County Jail, where he was being held without bond Wednesday morning in connection with one count each of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery, jail records said.

Formal charges hadn't been filed.

Myers was arrested in connection with the killing of Martínez-Meraz, whom police Lt. Ronnie Connell said was found dead after officers were called about 4 a.m. Feb. 1 to the 2100 block of S.E. 12th.

TyRon E’lon Wagner, 33, was booked early Saturday in the case into the jail, where he was being held on a $1 million bond Wednesday in connection with first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, jail records said.

Wagner and Shiann V. Barnes, 29, also were being held Wednesday in a separate case in which they were arrested early Saturday in connection with distributing certain stimulants and obstructing apprehension of prosecution, jail records said. Formal charges haven't been filed in that case, either.
