Topeka's city government has 28 vacancies on 17 board and commissions. It's seeking volunteers

Topeka Mayor Mike Padilla asked this week that local residents volunteer to fill 28 vacant positions on 17 boards and commissions the city maintains.

“Serving on boards and commissions is a great way to get involved in local government, while serving your community,” he said. “I encourage Topekans to take a look at the openings, see what topics might be of of interest to you and to apply for those open spots."

The city has four openings on its Board of Mechanical Examiners Appeals, Padilla said.

He said it also has the following:

• Two openings each on its Civil Service Commission, Americans with Disabilities Act Advisory Council, Board of Building and Fire Appeals, Downtown Business Improvement District Advisory Board, Topeka Housing Authority Advisory Board, Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority Board, Topeka Performing Arts Center Board of Trustees and Topeka Sustainability Advisory Board.

• One opening each on the Topeka/Shawnee County Riverfront Authority and the city's Human Relations Commission, Citizens Advisory Council, Board of Electrical Appeals, Board of Plumbing Appeals, Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging Board of Directors, Shawnee County Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board and Shawnee County Community Corrections Advisory Board.
