Torchwood star Gareth David-Lloyd has responded to allegations of John Barrowman exposing himself on set on a "regular basis".

The BBC and Doctor Who producer Julie Gardner have both confirmed that a complaint was made against Barrowman in 2008 regarding his conduct on the Torchwood set, with Barrowman issuing a public apology in November of that year.

Earlier this month, Barrowman issued another apology for his behaviour in a new statement, saying: "With the benefit of hindsight, I understand that upset may have been caused by my exuberant behaviour and I have apologised for this previously."

Gareth David-Lloyd, who played Ianto Jones in Torchwood, has now addressed the reports in a statement of his own.

"In my experience on Torchwood John's behaviour on set was always meant to entertain, make people laugh and keep their spirits and energy high on what were sometimes very long working days," the star said in a statement to Metro.

"It may be that because we were so close as a cast that professional lines were sometimes blurred in the excitement – I was too inexperienced to know any different but we were always laughing.

"The John I knew on set would have never behaved in a way he thought was affecting someone negatively. From what I know of him, that is not his nature. He was a whirlwind of positive energy, always very generous, kind and a wonderfully supportive lead actor to have at the helm of the show."

The allegations re-emerged recently following multiple reports of sexual misconduct about former Doctor Who star Noel Clarke, which the actor has denied.

In an article published by The Guardian about the sexual harassment allegations against Noel Clarke on Doctor Who, two women alleged that Barrowman exposed himself "on a regular basis" behind the scenes during the show's earlier years.

Two runners on the science-fiction shows claimed that Barrowman's nudity was something the actor "just thought was really funny", with one of them claiming that they weren't threatened by it, but stated that it was "really uncomfortable".

One crew member claimed that Barrowman's nudity was something the actor "just thought was really funny", while another former runner added that she found the actor's behaviour "really uncomfortable".
