Tornado, severe thunderstorm warnings to southeast Michigan cease

Less than a day after a tornado touched down in Colon, Michigan, the “Magic Capital of the World,” tornado sirens were blaring again Friday in parts of southeast Michigan.

Around 3:15 p.m., the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for East Central Lapeer County and Salinac County, along with warnings of quarter-sized to golf ball-sized hail and other flying debris.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued for the following counties: St. Clair, southeastern Livingston, Washtenaw, northern Oakland, northern Lapeer and northeastern Genesee. These areas are to expect 60 mph wind gusts and penny to quarter-sized hail, causing damage to vehicles, roofs, siding and trees.

A low chance of thunderstorms persists over the weekend into Monday.
