Tornado, severe thunderstorm warnings for Cape Cod expire after wild weather rocks region

A tornado and severe thunderstorm that was issued for Cape Cod on Tuesday has expired after torrential rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning rocked the region.

The tornado warning for Barnstable County officially expired at 12:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The storm threatened Barnstable, Yarmouth, Sandwich, Dennis, Brewster, Harwich, Orleans, and Hyannis, the NWS said.

“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. A severe thunderstorm warning for Barnstable County officially expired at 1 p.m.

Flash flood warnings remain in effect for Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester counties until 2 p.m.

Earlier in the morning, a tornado warning was issued for Middlesex and Worcester counties. It expired at 9:30 a.m. Another tornado warning, issued for Bristol and Plymouth counties, expired at 11:45 p.m.
