Tornado watch issued for Bucks, Montgomery counties

A severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch has been issued for Bucks County and the surrounding area ahead of high temperatures expected this weekend.

The watch, issued about 11:30 a.m., remains in effect until 7 p.m. Friday.

The weather service issued the severe thunderstorm warning for Central Bucks at 3 p.m. It will remain under the warning until 3:45 p.m.

In addition to tornadoes, hail and wind gusts of up to 70 mph are possible Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Scattered thunderstorms are also possible during that time.

Temperatures are expected to be very high Saturday. The weather service issued a heat advisory from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned room.

The forecast calls for a high of 94 degrees Saturday and a high of 91 on Sunday.

The weather service also recommended taking precautions, such as wearing lightweight or loose-fitting clothing, when going out Saturday. A heat advisory may also be necessary Sunday.
