TORPIDO EP - Lastigband

With the lyrics effortlessly making their way into the song, singing as if no effort was involved with a voice similar to Jim Reid’s unwavering coolness whilst fronting 80′s shoegaze band, The Jesus and Mary Chain. Gethin Davies’s voice swaying in and out, haunting “Arnofio” occasionally being completely drowned out by the band’s various instrumental inputs.

Complimenting the voice of Gethin Davies is an inclusion of guitar, sounding almost skewed, as if members of Lastigband have only found out about the use of a whammy bar and are using it to full effect throughout the song. Or are deliberately trying to cause friction between the vocals and guitars. Although, this is a rather interesting element of the song that does create a dichotomy of different sounds to the overall piece of music, you do get that sense of early 70′s anarcho Punk from the dialect between jarred guitar and vocals.

I see “Arnofio” as being a piece of music that has been built on several layers of differentiating sounds, beginning with a heavy reverb before being shutdown by a West Cost American sounding pop punk, a piece of music that could have been used for Tony Hawk’s series of Pro Skater games in the noughties. That’s exactly what it sounded like, if you’re familiar with the referencing then that statement will make sense to you. But, if not, then i’ve attached the soundtrack for you to decide.

Sounds Like: The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Goldfinger, Alien Ant Farm.
