Tory leadership debate - LIVE: Conservative candidates take part in first hustings as Boris Johnson empty-chaired

Five of the six remaining Tory leadership candidates are to take part in a live televised debate as they battle to gain ground on frontrunner Boris Johnson.

Jeremy Hunt, Michael Gove, Dominic Raab, Sajid Javid and Rory Stewart will face questions from host Krishnan Guru-Murthy and a studio audience in the Channel 4 broadcast on Sunday evening.

Mr Johnson, the strong favourite to replace Theresa May as prime minister after topping the first-round ballot this week, has been accused of dodging scrutiny after refusing to take part. Channel 4 is to leave an empty podium on the stage in his place.
