A Total Eclipse of the Hearts in Greenville

GREENVILLE, Texas (KETK) – Just a few months away from the solar eclipse and several Texas cities are in its path. The City of Greenville is working hard to make the weekend enjoyable for county residents and visitors.

City of Tyler begins preparations for April’s solar eclipse

“There’s not going to be another eclipse that passes Greenville for about 400 years,” said Micah Mcbay, City of Greenville, Community Engagement Director.

In Greenville, the city is sponsoring several events the entire weekend of the total eclipse that will fall on Monday, April 8th.

“We’ve got the grand opening of our farmers market that’s happening Saturday morning, then we’ve got three shows at our municipal auditorium that weekend so there’s a concert Friday night Saturday night, and Sunday,” McBay said.

The weekend of the eclipse there will be plenty of concerts for those who love live music.

“All for One, Jen Blossoms, and Sarah Evans, so we’re pretty excited about that. We also have Jordan Rainer who was on the voice that’s coming that night,” said McBay.

The GMA shows are ticketed. The music festival on Sunday, at the Greenville Sports Park is free.

Organizers are expecting at least 10,000 people for their Total Eclipse of the Hearts event but, it could be more.

“And it could be as high as 50-60,000,” said McBay.

Most events will be held at the Greenville Sports Park: Leo Hackney Blvd. Greenville, Texas 75402.

“And then in this same parking lot over here there will be vendors, food trucks, and of course we got a beautiful playground over here as well. On April 8 the eclipse will be passing through Greenville at about 1:44 in the afternoon and last for around four minutes and 10 seconds. The city will be hosting a watch party in the field of the town’s sports park. As you can see it’s a huge space we could easily fit thousands of people out here,” said McBay.

Texas city braces for flood of visitors trying to watch the eclipse

To get ready, the city will be hosting public meetings for community members in Hunt County ahead of the eclipse event. Meeting info will be posted on the city’s website and Facebook page.

“It’s to tell people about the event. To let them know what to expect to let them know how to prepare as a local business. So, they are not caught off guard by all of the people coming in,” said McBay.

Greenville is gearing up for a sight you wont want to miss.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun. And we’re hoping people will come out to the city that weekend and enjoy what we’re offering,” said McBay.
