Total restoration of power completed for Arkansas River Valley

Crews have completed restoration of power to customers in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma who lost service in the Tuesday snowstorm.

The winter storm that brought 4 inches of snow to Fort Smith and left up to 8 inches of snow in northwest Arkansas, caused up to 9,000 power outages in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

Heavy, wet snow weighed heavy on trees and power lines that went down.

Utility crews worked three days to restore power to customers. Up to 9,000 Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. customers in the Arkansas River Valley lost power Tuesday and early Wednesday.

By 6 a.m. Friday all Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma customers had power restored, OG&E reported. About 500 workers responded to the restoration effort.

There were plenty of hazards for drivers who also drove on slushy snow and faced slick roads. Fort Smith police reported downed trees and power lines Wednesday and Thursday. Plenty of work cleaning up tree debris remained Friday.
