FRIDAY UPDATE: Jurors hit Alex Jones with a new $45.2 million penalty in Sandy Hook case
The jurors in the Alex Jones trial have reached a verdict. In a decision signed by 10 of 12 jurors Thursday, the InfoWars host will owe the family of a Sandy Hook shooting victim $4.1 million. Scarlett Lewis and her husband Neil Heslin had sued Jones for $150 million.
But Jones and his main company, Free Speech Systems, may still end up owing more. The next phase of his trial will continue Friday morning, when jurors will be asked to issue punitive damages that are intended as punishment after hearing testimony from the parents' economic expert on the net worth of Jones and his company.
Still, Thursday's jury decision spurred reactions from those following the case on Twitter:
So Alex Jones has to pay $4.1 million dollars to two Sandy Hook families. Am I the only one who thinks that amount is an insult to the families? There are still punitive damages to come. Hopefully, that will bury him.

Alex Jones only has to pay 4.1M so far in damages, but something tells me the real damages will be from his lawyer's blunder of sending his text records to the other lawyer.

$4.1 from Alex Jones isn’t enough given what he & his followers did to the poor Sandy Hook parents. Jones & his InfoWars staff are all vile.#AlexJonesIsACoward pic.twitter.com/VMtWp8KFJw

Alex Jones to pay 4.1 Million to Sandy Hook Parents! Not enough for all the Sorrow and trouble Alex Jones caused.

4.1 million judgment for Sandy Hook families is totally inadequate for what they suffered. It should have been $4.1 per family.

I only wish it had been more than $4 million he owes the families of those massacred at Sandy Hook school. The trauma compounded by his egregious lies will never leave these grieving families. https://t.co/Oqbt4wPgTA
