Touch-A-Truck in Canal Winchester will kick off Music in the Park on May 19.

The City of Canal Winchester invites families with children of all ages and adults alike to see and explore the many fascinating public works and public safety vehicles on display at the upcoming Touch-A-Truck event from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 19.

Touch-A-Truck kicks off the city’s 2023 Music in the Park free summer event series at Stradley Park, 36 S. High Street. From dump trucks to police cars, fire trucks, and more, get an up-close experience with vehicles from Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Township Fire Department, Madison Township Police, Rumpke Waste & Recycling, South Central Power, and the City of Canal Winchester.

For those more interested in live entertainment, the event will also feature live music by Simple Harvest. Additional free hands-on activities and games will be available throughout the park.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and picnic, purchase food from one of the food trucks on site, or carry-out from one of our downtown restaurants. This year, as part of the newly implemented Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), visitors will be able to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating establishments to enjoy within the DORA boundaries. More information on DORA can be found on the city’s website. No outside alcohol is permitted within the park.

Come back on Friday, June 16 for Pet Palooza and live music from The Treble Catz. Then on July 21, the Gas Pump Jockeys return for a record 16th season for our annual Cruise-In Car Show, hosted by C-Town Cruisers.

Fundraiser

Get acquainted with Canal Winchester’s elected officials once again as they wait tables to earn tips for Relay for Life, a fundraiser for cancer research. On Wednesday, May 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Canal Winchester Mayor Michael Ebert and City Council members will serve dinner at the Canal Winchester Community Center, located at 45 E. Waterloo Street.

The three-course meal will include a house salad and bread, spaghetti and meatballs, iced tea, lemonade, coffee, and a dessert. The cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child (10 and under). Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the event while supplies last. Cash, check, or credit cards will be accepted and parties will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. The dinner is named in honor of the late Kristen Sims, who worked to bring Relay for Life to Canal Winchester. All tips and dinner proceeds will benefit Relay for Life, American Cancer Society. Donations are tax deductible and receipts will be available upon request.

In addition to the dinner, visitors can purchase raffle tickets for a variety of prizes, including a season pass to the Canal Winchester Municipal Pool. Tickets for the raffle will also be sold at the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event on Saturday, June 24 at the Canal Winchester High School, where the winners will be announced.

Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day with the City of Canal Winchester, in partnership with Franklin Soil & Water Conservation District, during our community education workshop: Community Backyard Conservation. The celebration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, at 46 E. Waterloo Street.

Participants will learn the benefits of rain gardens, rain barrels and composting. Those who attend the free workshop may also be eligible to receive a $50 rebate voucher (*dependent on homeowners location & while supplies last) on the purchase of an approved rain barrel and/or composter.
