Late touchdown lifts Pennsylvania to win over Maryland in Big 33 Football Classic

May 29—Wilson's Cam Jones and Exeter's Anthony Caccese walked off the field as winners in their final high school football game as Pennsylvania defeated Maryland 31-27 in the Big 33 Football Classic Sunday at Rocco Ortenzio Stadium in Harrisburg.

After Maryland took a 27-24 lead on a touchdown with 2:29 left, Dallastown's Kenny Johnson stretched to catch a 31-yard pass from Upper Dublin's Colin O'Sullivan with 1:15 left to give Pennsylvania the lead on the way to its fourth straight win in the series.

Johnson's score came after he had a 40-yard TD negated by a penalty. He finished with nine catches for 161 yards and was named Pennsylvania MVP. He will attend Pitt.

Jones, who played defensive back and will continue his career at Holy Cross, finished with five tackles. Caccese, an offensive lineman who will continue his career at Delaware, helped Pennsylvania run for 129 yards on 21 carries and gain 313 total yards.

In addition Sunday, Berks Catholic coach Rick Keeley was inducted into the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Pennsylvania had leads of 10-0 and 24-14 before Maryland, looking for its first win in the series since 2018, came back.

McKeesport's Jahmil Perryman, who will play at Saint Francis, had four carries for 90 yards.

Running back Bryce Cox was named the Maryland MVP. He had 13 carries for 39 yards and two touchdowns. He will play at Georgetown.
