A 22-year-old Sycamore High School graduate is dead after a rafting accident in a lake on the Florida Panhandle.

Quion Brown and two other people were in a raft on Lake Martin near Parker, Florida, the afternoon of June 15 when a resident watching from her dock "heard a poof or a pop" and saw it overturn, Parker Police Chief Dennes Hutto said.

Two of the people made it to shore.

Brown’s body was pulled from the lake after a four-house search by six law-enforcement agencies using four boats with sonar and divers, Hutto said.

He said Brown’s body was found in about 60 feet of water more than 100 feet from a boat ramp.

"The water's really murky and dark," Hutto said.

Brown’s sister, Mika Horton of Blue Ash, has started a GoFundMe to raise money to bring him home.

“He touched many people. He had a pure heart of gold,” Horton said. “All he wanted to do was make the world a better place.”
