Tough questions for Cal Fire surface in Fawn Fire community meeting

Emotions ran high Saturday evening at a community meeting where both fire officials and people affected by a Shasta County wildfire were in attendance. Fire managers heard from some of the people affected by the Fawn Fire, including Jim Murphy of Redding who lives in the path air tankers used to drop retardant the day the fire sparked, which was Wednesday. Murphy went into the meeting, held in the auditorium at Shasta College, questioning whether fire managers called off air tankers too soon. “It was early! There was still lots of daylight! And I’m gonna stand by that because I was there watching them go overhead,” Murphy said toward fire managers. “There was still plenty of daylight. [The air attack] shouldn’t have stopped.”
