The Tourist season 2 unveils first look at returning Jamie Dornan

Jamie Dornan is back as amnesiac Elliot Stanley in the first images from The Tourist season 2.

Airing on BBC One later this year, the new episodes, which take place in Ireland, also reunite fans with Danielle Macdonald's police officer Helen Chambers, as she and Elliot attempt to uncover the truth about his past.

"As Elliot and Helen are dragged into a longstanding family feud, series 2 introduces a raft of new characters including Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill), Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh), Orla (Nessa Matthews), Fergal (Mark McKenna) and Frank (Francis Magee)," added an official description.

Discussing his mysterious character last summer, Dornan (whose new spy blockbuster Heart of Stone is now streaming on Netflix) revealed that he'd extracted real feelings of being "lost or afraid" for his performance in The Tourist.

"I've never had to approach a character before who doesn't know who he is, so it was almost like a total opposite process for me of not allowing yourself a backstory and accepting every single discovery he has as something new," the actor told Variety.

"I often tried to consider myself in my most vulnerable moments, where I've felt lost or afraid, and draw on those."

For the many blistering action sequences, though, he didn't quite go full Tom Cruise.

"There is a f**king line. So we had a line, obviously, but I will do everything up to that line, because [stunts are] fun, and I enjoy it. While my body just about still works, I will do anything," Dornan previously commented.

The Tourist series 1 is streaming on BBC iPlayer and available on DVD and Blu-ray. It airs on Max in the US. Series 2 is on its way.
