Tourist tax collection in Ukraine down 24% in 2022
The total amount of tourist tax collected in 2021 was UAH 235.4 million ($8.63 million).
Drops in collection were recorded in 14 oblasts of Ukraine — mainly those regions that were or are in the combat zone and temporarily occupied. For example, in Kherson Oblast, the amount of tourist tax was down 95%, in Mykolaiv Oblast — 90%, in Donetsk Oblast — 83%, and in Luhansk Oblast — 80%.

There was also a significant decline in Odesa (80%), Zaporizhzhya (78%), Kharkiv (61%), Sumy (58%), Chernihiv (53%), Kyiv (43%), and Zhytomyr (24%) oblasts and the city of Kyiv (54%). In Dnipropetrovsk and Rivne oblasts, a 15% drop was recorded.
Due to the internal migration of Ukrainians from the occupied and frontline territories, the safer regions recorded an increase in tourist arrivals.

Lviv Oblast became the leader in the amount of tourist tax in 2022 at UAH 41.4 million ($1.37 million), which is 79% more than in 2021. The capital added UAH 31.4 million ($0.95 million) to its budget. However, this amount is less than half of that in 2021.
Other leaders in collected tourist tax include Zakarpattya Oblast at UAH 19.4 million ($0.59 million), Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast at UAH 17.9 million ($0.54 million), and Cherkasy Oblast at UAH 12.5 million ($0.38 million).
