Tourists revel as kites fill skies at Indian festival

STORY: Tourists, including children, visited the kite flying ground in Vadodara city to witness the vibrant kites flown by participants from at least 68 countries who took part in the week-long festival with the G20 summit as its theme.

"For me, the important (thing) is to make…to give a smile on the kids' faces," said John, a a participant from Belgium.

"I am very happy that we are back again in the kite fields to do this very good festival," said Constantine from Greece.

Kites of all shapes and colous, including one shaped like the iconic video game character 'Mario', filled the skies.

In Gujarat, the kite festival is organized ahead of 'Makar Sankranti'. It is known as 'Uttarayan' in the state and is celebrated by flying kites with great zeal and joy.

The festival will end on January 14.
