Tournament brackets revealed for area boys basketball teams

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its tournament brackets for the statewide boys basketball tournament on Sunday afternoon. All 10 area teams learned their seeding, as well as their first opponents in the tournament heading into sectionals.

Chillicothe earned the No. 45 seed in the Division I Central 1 bracket, and it will face the winner of No. Olentangy Orange and No. 46 Logan's sectional semifinal game. The Cavaliers will tipoff at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 , with location being determined by the highest-seeded team. Chillicothe will host if Logan wins, but it will play on the road if Olentangy Orange wins.

Unioto was seeded the highest among Division II area teams after garnering the No. 10 seed in the Southeast 1 bracket. It will travel to face No. 7 Marietta inside Frank Sutton Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 in Marietta. Waverly was given the No. 19 seed, and as such will take on No. 14 Circleville at Circleville High School at 7 p.m. Feb. 18.

Zane Trace, the No. 3 seed in Division III Southeast 2 bracket, will host either No. 14 Rock Hill and No. 19 Oak Hill in the sectional finals on Feb. 25. Zane Trace will have home-court advantage regardless of which team it faces. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Zane Trace High School.

No. 26-seeded Huntington was also placed into the Southeast 2 bracket, and will take on No. 7 Fairland in the sectional semifinals. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside Carl York Gym in Proctorville.

No. 12 Westfall and No. 21 Piketon will begin their tournament runs against each other in the Division III Southeast 1 bracket. The Mustangs will play host due to their higher seeding, with the sectional semifinal faceoff occurring on at 7 p.m. Feb. 21.

Adena and Southeastern join Westfall and Piketon in the Division III Southeast 1 bracket. The No. 20-seeded Warriors will face No. 13 Belpre at Belpre High School. The No. 25 Panthers, meanwhile, will travel to take on No. 8 Northwest in McDermott. Both games are scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21.

Paint Valley will begin its run as the No. 4-seeded team in the Division IV Southeast 2 bracket. As such, it will host the winner of the sectional semifinal between No. 13 Glenwood and No. 20 Miller at 7 p.m. Feb. 24.
