A great mass of energy filled the Bartlesville High Bruin Fieldhouse for three days last week.

The ConocoPhillips/Arvest Invitational basketball tournament drew 16 teams — eight for a girls bracket, eight for a boys bracket — for the Thursday-through-Friday hoops spectacle.

There were no major surprises in the championship matchups. For the girls, Booker T. Washington outlasted Broken Arrow, 39-34.

In the boys final, the two tourney final favorites met, with Carl Albert pulling past Bixby, 58-49.

Bartlesville girls fared strong overall. They beat thundered past Tulsa Memorial in the first round, 76-17. But, they just got on the wrong side of a wild momentum swing that carried BT Washington to a 79-38 win.

The Lady Bruins snapped back to surprise No. 15-ranked Del City, 52-46, in the third-place game.

On the boys side, the Bruins opened up by crushing Ponca City, 85-48, for head coach Clent Stewart’s 75th career victory.

But, the next two rounds featured two of the top three teams.

In the semifinals, Carl Albert got past the stubborn Bruins, 64-46. In the third-place game, Millwood edged Bartlesville, 71-68.

Bartlesville had a chance to tie the game at the end of regulation, but a three-pointer fell just shy.

Kaelynn “K.K.” Duncan and David Castillo would be the Bartlesville players named to the All-Tourney team.
