Tourney Trail: Three Richland County vs. Richland County games highlight tourney slate

MANSFIELD — The tourney trails are set.

On Sunday, girls basketball coaches from Richland County sat down with their respective district chairs and found out their road to a district championship. The Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament tips off in just two weeks, but it is never too early to take a look at each Richland County team's path to glory. And for many of them, the trail starts with some familiar competition.

Let's break it down by division.

Division II Ashland District

In the Division II Ashland District, Mansfield Senior enters as the No. 3 seed and will play No. 10 seed Madison at 8 p.m. Feb. 16 at Edison High School in the sectional semifinals. The winner moves on to play No. 1 seed Norwalk at 8 p.m. Feb. 18 at Edison for a sectional championship.

Shelby earned the No. 4 seed and decided to play in the sectional semifinals to avoid having more than a week off between games. The Whippets will play No. 9 seed Lexington at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 at Edison in the semifinals, with the winner moving on to play No. 6 seed Port Clinton in a sectional championship at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at Edison.

Ontario earned the No. 8 seed and took a slot with a bye in the first round. The Warriors will play the winner of No. 2 Bellevue and No. 11 Vermilion at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at Willard High School for a sectional championship.

The district tournament will be held Feb. 23 and 25 at Ashland High School. The semifinal games will be at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and the championship game will be at 4 p.m. Feb. 25.

Division III Shelby District

In the Division III Shelby District, Clear Fork ended up with the No. 4 seed overall and elected to play in a sectional semifinal game against No. 9 Edison at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Buckeye Central High School. The winner moves on to play No. 5 Huron at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Buckeye Central for a sectional championship.

Crestview earned the No. 11 seed and took a first-round bye spot. The Cougars will play the winner of No. 1 Margaretta and No. 12 Galion at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Monroeville High School for a sectional championship.

The district tournament will be held at Shelby High School with the semifinal games tipping off at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 and the championship game slated for 6 p.m. Feb. 25.

Division IV Willard District

In the Division IV Willard District, Mansfield Christian took the No. 4 overall seed and will play No. 9 Seneca East at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 at Shelby High School in the sectional semifinals. The winner advances to play the winner of No. 3 New London and No. 13 St. Peter's at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Shelby in the sectional finals. New London and St. Peter's play at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Shelby in the sectional semifinals.

Lucas earned the No. 6 seed in the district and will play No. 7 seed Plymouth at 6 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Crestview High School in the sectional semifinals, with the winner advancing to play No. 5 South Central at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 for a sectional championship.

The district tournament will be held at Willard High School, with the semifinals tipping off at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and the title game slated for 6 p.m. Feb. 25.
