New town board member named in Windsor

Ron Steinbach, a retired electric utility analyst and manager, was sworn in as the newest member of Windsor Town Board on Monday, filling the vacancy created by the December resignation of board member Scott Charpentier.

Steinbach will serve the remaining 14 months of Charpentier's term and will have to run for re-election in 2024 to retain the seat.

Steinbach and Larry Roche, president and chairman of the Windsor Highlands Metro District, were the only two candidates who applied to represent District 1.

Steinbach has lived in Windsor for 14 years. Much of his career has been spent working for public power entities including Western Area Power Administration and Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, focusing on power and transmissions sales and transmission management.

A Marine Corps and Air National Guard veteran, Steinbach has served on the Windsor Historical Preservation Commission and the Highland Ridge HOA board and as a Larimer County election judge.

In his application, Steinbach said his interests are related to growth management and traffic. He wants to ensure that any downtown development, particularly the backlots, "harmonizes well with the existing downtown architectural landscape."

"To me that means that more modern designs should be pushed out to the outskirts of town" such as the Brands East, Windsor developer Martin Lind's project along Fairgrounds Avenue.

In terms of traffic, Steinbach said if traffic is not more aggressively addressed, "we may be looking at a downtown reminiscent of North College Avenue in Fort Collins. I think we can do better than that."
