Town halls give residents chance for input on Fort Worth school board redistricting

The Fort Worth school district is hosting four community town hall sessions in December to discuss the redrawing of board of trustee single-member districts.

Starting Wednesday, a board-appointed committee will host the meetings to allow the community to ask questions and provide comments on the redistricting process.

Residents can participate in the online or in-person sessions on the following dates:

Virtual Town Hall:

  • 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1 via Zoom

In-Person Town Hall:

  • 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 - Arlington Heights High School Auditorium, 4501 West Freeway

  • 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15- Dunbar High School Auditorium, 5700 Ramey Ave.

  • 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16 - Riverside Middle School Auditorium, 1600 Bolton St.

Each decade, most governmental bodies participate in redistricting — a redrawing of electoral boundaries to reflect population growth, decline or any other demographic changes based on recent U.S. Census data.

The process is intended to aid equal voter representation and proper federal funding.

During Fort Worth school’s redistricting process, the board’s nine single-member trustee districts may be redrawn based on the population.

More information about the redistricting process and its committee members can be found on the district’s website.
