Town of Leland to host hurricane expo. Plus 9 more events in Brunswick this week.

Hurricane season officially began June 1. The town of Leland will host the 2022 Hurricane Expo to ensure residents are ready should a hurricane impact the region. Also there will be more events happening this week in Brunswick.

Hurricane expo

The expo will be a one-stop shop for emergency resources, and will feature workshops on the hurricane season outlook, a question and answer panel with town staff and public safety officials, presentations on flooding, insurance, and stormwater management. In attendance will be staff from Leland's fire/rescue, police, public services, and planning and inspections departments; Brunswick County Emergency Services; Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office; American Red Cross; N.C. Cooperative Extension Agency; N.C. Department of Insurance; Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, WWAY TV3, and H2GO.  The expo will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, 1212 Magnolia Village Way.

Calabash Summer Concert Series

Kicking off the Calabash Summer Concert Series will be the Chocolate Chip & Co. Band. The band plays soul and R&B, 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at Calabash Town Park, 868 Persimmon Road. Hot dogs, kettle corns and treats available. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Free. 910-579-6747.

Ocean Isle Beach Summer Market

Check out this wonderful market for fun, food and unique products, like all kinds of delicious baked goods, fresh produce, and a wide range of quality handcrafted items. The market opens 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at 5 W. Third St.

World Ocean Day/‘Save the Ocean’ exhibit

Imagine having the floor beneath you virtually come to life and turn into the ocean floor. Experience this and more with the new exhibit, ‘Save the Ocean’ featuring a dynamic floor, where people can stomp the trash out of a virtual ocean and learn ways to protect the ocean in their daily lives. The grand opening for the exhibit will be on World Ocean Day, Wednesday, June 8 at the Museum of Coastal Carolina. The purpose of World Ocean Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world's population on a project for the sustainable management of the world's oceans. The museum is located at 21 E. Second St., Ocean Isle Beach. Non-member all-day admission is $10 for adults, $9 for ages 62 and over, $8 for ages 3-12, and free for ages 2 and under and members. Details: 910-579-1016.

Jolly Mon King Classic

A family atmosphere classic, founded in 1992, and grown to be one of the largest king mackerel fishing tournaments in the country, will hold the season's first tournament. Children's activities will be featured, including the Pogy Bobbing contest, Rock the Dock kids dock tournament, and the Jolly Mon Junior tournament. The event will be held June 8-12 at Ocean Isle Fishing Center, 65 Causeway Drive, Ocean Isle Beach. For more information, visit https://www.oifc.com/jmkc.

Sunset Beach Sound Waves concert series

Playing beach, soul and country music will be The Pink Slips Band, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at the Village Park gazebo, 1791 Queen Anne St. Free.

Southport Summer Concert Series

Oak Island Concert Series

Boogie in the sand with The Sand Band playing beach music, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 10 at Middleton Park Amphitheater, 4610 E. Dolphin Drive. Free.

Ocean Isle Beach Summer Concert

Also known as the Peggy Hughes Concert series, The Tonez will perform beach, dance and rock beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 10 at Town Center Park, 11 E. Second St. Free.

Holden Beach Concert Series
