These towns in Wayne County are hosting parades for July 4

Independence Day parades are planned in Wayne County, Pa. with one on Sunday, July 3 in Lake Ariel, and two on Monday, July 4, in Pleasant Mount and in Hawley. There is also a parade in Narrowsburg, NY on the 4th.

Fireworks are also planned at Honesdale (July 2), Moscow (also July 2), Lake Ariel (July 3) and at Lake Wallenpaupack (July 4). For a full list of fireworks celebrations, go to: bit.ly/3NAugNz.

Lake Ariel

The Lake Ariel Volunteer Fire Company hosts the parade at 7 p.m., July 3 on Route 191 in the village of Lake Ariel. Fireworks follow at dusk. The rain date is July 8.

Pleasant Mount

The Pleasant Mount Community Center hosts the annual Independence Day parade on the 4th at 10 a.m.The northern Wayne County village on Route 371 includes the burial monument to Samuel Meredith, the first Treasurer of the Unted States and Brigadier General of the Pennsylvania Militia during the Revolution, who lived near Pleasant Mount after the war.

A patriotic ceremony follows the parade at the monument in the village park. Also planned is the Pleasant Mount Firecracker 5K Race and chicken barbecue. The Pleasant Mount Historical Society will host an open house.

Hawley

Hawley's annual parade is on July 4 at noon. The lineup is at 11 a.m. on Spring Street. The parade heads up Main Avenue, ending at Bingham Park. This year's parade marshals are Gene and Wendy Krause, who have been active with the Hawley Fire Department for many years. Gene serves as Deputy Chief.

The theme of the parade is “Celebrating the American Dream.”

Mary Sanders, council member and Parade Committee member, announced that prizes will be awarded for 1) group or individual who exhibits the most accurate historical elements; 2) a group or individual who best embodies the theme; and 3) the group or individual who best embodies patriotism.

Honorable mention prizes will be awarded for 1) most participants in a group; 2) group or individual who has traveled the farthest; and 3) group or individual who has participated in the most Hawley parades. Prizes will be announced in the park following the parade.

Refreshments, courtesy of Lake Region IGA and the Shook family, will be served in the park after the parade.

DIVISION 6: Emergency Medical Service Vehicles — Commonwealth, Delaware Township Volunteer Ambulance, Hamlin Ambulance, Lackawaxen EMS, Lake Region Emergency Services, Pike County EMA, Tafton Ambulance, White Mills Ambulance, Wayne County Emergency Management.

There is no carnival this year. Normally the carnival would begin after the parade in the park.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. there are fireworks at Lake Wallenpaupack, fired from the Wallenpaupack Area High School football field. The rain date is July 5.

Take a drive to Narrowsburg, NY

In nearby Narrowsburg, NY on the Upper Delaware River, the Narrowsburg Fire Department is hosting a parade on July 4, at 3 p.m. Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce and Tusten Youth Commission co-hosts the family-friendly celebration that day at Firemen's Field, 69 DeMauro Lane, Narrowsburg from 3 to 8 p.m. Live music, games, food and drink are planned.
