Townsend principal granted SCTC Foundation Community Award

Oct. 21—MAXTON — Townsend Elementary School Principal Angela Faulkner has been named the recipient of the SCTC Foundation Community Award.

"I Am so proud to make Ms. Angela Faulkner as our 2022-2023 Recipient," said SCTC Foundation CEO Johnathan Galbreath. "Faulkner has shown me and my team outstanding leadership in the communities as well as educating the young minds in classrooms. I believe this award was well deserved. Congratulations Ms. Faulkner on the outstanding service in the communities."

The SCTC Foundation Community Award was started back in 2019 to give recognition to students, athletes and community members that have shown significant amounts of leadership, mentorship, and life skills to help others excel in different areas of life.

The SCTC Foundation was founded in 2010. The group uses S.W.A.G. as an acronym for four words — Smart, Wisdom, Achiever, and Gifted. The organization's mission is "Encouraging teens to strive in all aspects of life."

In addition to Townsend, Faulkner has served as principal at Rowland Middle School, Lumberton Jr. High School, R.B. Dean Elementary and R.B. Dean-Townsend School.

The principal's personal motto is "I believe we, as educational leaders, are the catalyst for change- each moment is a new opportunity to create magic within ourselves and others."

Faulkner was chosen because she has shown "great amounts of leadership" by helping others excel not only in her own community in Lumberton but also in the community of Maxton. "Faulkner exemplifies the word 'leader.' Faulkner loves her position as a principal but loves to educate the minds of the youth in the school as well as in the community," a statement from the foundation read in part.
