Toy Koalas Pop Up Around New York City to Raise Money for Wildlife Affected by Bushfires

Toy koalas were placed around the streets of New York City on January 10 in an effort to raise money for wildlife rescuers and carers in Australia as bushfires killed animals and destroyed habitats across the country.

Koalas of NYC put the toy marsupials on street poles, trees and shop windows across the city with a message attached saying “1 Billion of the world’s unique wildlife has died in the Australian bushfires.”

More than a billion animals across Australia have been killed by bushfires in the 2019-2020 fire season, according to an estimate by Professor Chris Dickman from the University of Sydney.
