Toys R Us returning to Summit Mall, other locations nationwide in partnership with Macy's

Those who have missed being a Toys R Us kid will again be able to visit the toy store within the Macy's at Summit Mall and other locations nationwide.

Officials from Macy's recently announced that they would expand their partnership with WHP Global to bring Toys R Us to its stores starting this month through mid-October. The in-store shops will range from 1,000 square feet to as large as 10,000 square feet in select locations.

The Macy's store in Summit Mall on West Market Street in Fairlawn will open a Toys R Us by fall 2022, Macy's spokeswoman Allison Edheimer said.

Highlights for this location and other Macy's stores include hands-on demonstration tables and a life-size “Geoffrey On A Bench” photo opportunity for families with the Geoffrey Giraffe store mascot.

Belden Village Mall has had a small Toys R Us section for awhile and will see an expansion soon.

“We will be receiving the full fixture package within the next few months,” said Robin Gehlmann, senior director store manager of Macy’s at Belden Village Mall. “It’s over 1,000 square feet in our store and will grow an additional 500 square feet for holiday.”

To celebrate the openings, all Macy’s stores will host nine days of in-store events Oct. 15 through 23 that will include family friendly activities and daily giveaways from brands like Barbie, Lego, Play-Doh and more.

This is a turnaround for Toys R Us, which had filed for liquidation in 2018, closing more than 700 stores in the United States. In March 2021, WHP Global, a brand management firm with a portfolio of consumer brands that generate $4.5 billion in retail sales, acquired the Toys R Us brand.

"Macy’s is thrilled to expand our partnership with WHP Global to bring the beloved Toys R Us brand to every Macy’s store in America this holiday season," Edheimer said.

Toys R Us also continues to operate an an online retail presence. Since August, products have been available through macys.com/toysrus and ToysRUs.com online.
