Nov. 17—Toys for Tots Hunt County has already been working hard for several weeks in their quest to help make Christmas a little brighter for area children in need.

Two weeks ago, the group received a pleasant surprise in the form of a generous donation of more than 800 toys from a single donor who wished to remain anonymous. However, Toys for Tots volunteers still have a long way to go to meet their goal of providing toys for about 4,000 children this year.

For this reason, Toys for Tots Hunt County has been planning multiple toy drives and other events.

This Saturday, with the help of the Grinch, Toys for Tots volunteers will be at the Walmart in Royse City from noon to 5 p.m. for a "Fill the Trailer" event, where they will be collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys and bicycles.

Other events coming up for the charity are "Fill the Jeep" and a poker run.

Fill the Jeep is planned for Saturday, Dec 2 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Greenville Promenade (formerly the Crossroads Mall). The event will be hosted by the Hunt County Jeep Club, and in addition to collecting donations, live music will be performed by Jessica Teague.

The following week, on Saturday, Dec. 9, Toys for Tots Hunt County will have its poker run and toy drive at Hartline's Top Tracer Golf and Sports Club at 3769 Interstate 30 Frontage Road in Campbell.

A poker run is a game in which motorcyclists ride to five different locations, where they collect a playing card at each stop. At the end of the game, the player with the best hand wins.

In the case of this poker run, half of the money raised through the registration fees will go to the winner and the other half will go to Toys for Tots Hunt County.

Registration for the poker run is to begin at 9 a.m. with the ride starting at 10 a.m. The fee to play the poker game will be $20.
