Toys-for-Tots in final days of collections for locations around the region
As local shoppers rush around their communities in search of the perfect presents this Christmas season, some local businesses are offering a collection box for the region's Toys-for-Tots program.
The annual program hosted by the U.S. Marine Corps is in its final days of collecting toys for children in need around Beaver County and northwestern Allegheny County. This year, the program is benefiting over 4,500 local children whose families signed up for support.
"The type of toys that families are requesting varies," said Linda McKenzie, the regional coordinator for the toy collection. "We go from birth to 12 years old. We always find something that is on the 'wish list' of each child."
Each year, the Toys-for-Tots program tries to give each eligible child three toys, as well as a craft, game or book for under the Christmas tree. In 2021, donors provided gifts for over 39,000 children in Allegheny and Beaver counties.
Collection of all donated items begins on Dec. 1, so donors are encouraged to make last-minute donations throughout their communities. The following locations will have donation boxes:
