TPD investigating 2 overnight shootings that left 3 men injured; marks fifth shooting this week

In a continuation of a violent week in the capital city, the Tallahassee Police Department is investigating two overnight shootings that left three men injured.

The first occurred at approximately 3:22 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of West Pensacola Street, near Baja's Beach Club, which hosted a packed event featuring a performance by rapper Kodak Black earlier that night.

Arriving officers found two men suffering from non-life-threatening injuries after "the event at Bajas had concluded," according to TPD spokeswoman Alicia Turner.

Police say both men were "uncooperative, and officers had to search the area to locate the vehicle they were in when the shooting occurred."

No arrests have been made, and there are no suspects at this time, the synopsis read Saturday morning.

This is not the first time gunshots have followed the rapper's performance in Tallahassee.

In April, Kodak Black's bodyguard was injured in a shooting outside a Dewey Street McDonald's after the artist and his entourage left Baja's and were followed.

Second shooting less than 30 minutes later

Then, not even thirty minutes later, a man checked into a local hospital with a bullet wound.

He said he was shot at West Tennessee Street and Basin streets — one block from Florida State University's campus and less than two miles from the other shooting — earlier in the night.

Police say, before he was taken to a local hospital, the man drove home. Like the earlier incident, no arrests have been made and there are no suspects.

Fifth shooting this week

It's been a violent month and week in Tallahassee, which has grappled with a surge in gun violence in the last year. On Monday night, a man was shot and badly injured just blocks from Springfield Apartments.

Two days later, MaKayla Bryant, a 22-year-old Florida A&M student, was killed in a shooting outside in the Providence Pointe apartment complex.

On Thursday night, a teenage boy was killed and two others, 17 and 18, were arrested following what police say was a botched drug robbery.

There have been at least 14 shootings since the new year, resulting in at least 11 injuries and five deaths, according to an analysis of gun violence by the Tallahassee Police Department.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Baja's Beach Club. While police told the Democrat that initially, they later clarified it happened near the intersection of West Pensacola Street and Ocala Road.
