White House by the Sea: A century of the Kennedys at Hyannis Port

DOVER — On Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. Hyannis Port, Mass., is synonymous with the Kennedy family. Author Kate Storey delivers a rich and textured account of the Kennedys’ lives in their summer refuge at the Dover Public Library. Sign up needed for a link to this virtual program.

The sprawling white clapboard home in Hyannisport on Nantucket Sound was bought in 1928 by Joseph P. and Rose Kennedy and eventually became the home of their youngest son, Edward M. Kennedy, and his immediate family. The Kennedy Compound that includes the main home and several surrounding properties owned by other family members was considered the summer White House during the presidency of John F. Kennedy. The house property was later donated by Sen. Edward Kennedy’s widow, Victoria Kennedy, to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.
