Track 2021 homicides in Jackson using this map

As of Dec. 14, there have been 146 recorded homicides in Jackson in 2021 and, according to Clarion Ledger calculations, 131 of the killings involved a gun.

The city is on pace to reach 150 murders by the end of the year after surpassing 2020's record of 130 homicides in November.

As of Dec. 14, there have been 15 homicides in December. The record month so far in 2021 was June, with 17 homicides.

The causes behind the increase in homicides are complicated, though law enforcement officials believe drugs, neighborhood turf wars and domestic disputes are major factors at play.
