Track: Bravettes, Braves excel in Missoula

May 3—MISSOULA — Flathead's Bravettes piled up the wins again Tuesday, while the Braves showed off some speed and hops at a triangular track and field meet at MCPS Stadium.

Team scores were not available late Tuesday, but if they had been the Flathead girls would have had the most. Here's why.

Alivia Rinehart led a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 100-meter hurdles for the Bravettes; Zoey Bortz did the same in the 300 hurdles. And Akilah Kubi led yet another 1-2-3-4 finish for Flathead, in the long jump.

Kelcey Kopping won the 100 meters and was second in the 200 — the latter with a personal record time of 26.36 seconds (Hellgate's Anneliese Bessette won in 26.17).

Add in your nearly-obligatory wins from Tali Miller in the javelin and Kennedy Moore in the high jump, and the points pile up.

Maddy Moy competed in the discus for the first time this season and tied for second, throwing 112 feet, 2 inches.

Flathead's boys saw freshman William Hollensteiner set a PR while winning the 200 in 23.30 seconds — in what turned out to be the day's final event, because a thunderstorm canceled the long relay.

Senior Jackson Walker won the 400 in 52.15 seconds, a PR; Jacob Dolezal took the 110-meter hurdles in 16.74 for the Braves.

Brody Thornsberry won the long jump with a mark of 21-4, and PR'd in the triple jump (42-10) while taking second.

Flathead also took three of the top four spots in the pole vault, with sophomore Michael Mahar and junior Trevin Olivier tying for first by clearing 13-3. Both marks are PRs and sit just outside the top six in Class AA.

The meet's top performance possibly goes to Hellgate's Alex Shields, who unleashed a shot put of 54-4. That's 13 inches beyond the No. 1 mark in AA, by Gallatin's Jack Murray, according to Athletic.net.

Meanwhile Danny Sirmon of Sentinel threw 167-0 in the discus, a couple feet beyond the listed No. 1 by Great Falls CMR's Anthony Okes.
